non-linear video RPG set in FR [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-25-05, 08:28 AM This idea came up when it came to going over two of my favourite RPGS, Baldur's Gate and Morrowind. I sort of put two and two together and thought of an RPG that is set in FR but is like the Elderscrolls game where it's non linear and you basicly do what you want within that world.

Is anyone with me on this?

and honestly, a fantasy game without a rich plot is just.. dull hack and slash.

01-25-05, 05:50 PM There is no point in posting CRPG requests on WotC forums, as Hasbro sold the D&D license to Atari a long time ago. Wizards can't even make and publish a character generator without Atari's consent.

Ummmm. . . Morrowind had a plot. It's just that if you wanted to go exploring for a while rather than follow the plot you could. And non-linear doesn't mean hack and slash, nor does a linear plot mean a game isn't hack and slash. See Icewind Dale & IWD2.

HammerHeart, I think it's a good idea, but unfortunately it's a lot easier for game developers to make linear games than non-linear games. [The good news is that Bethesda (makers of Morrowind) is making Fallout 3. I can die happy now.] So BG2 might be as non-linear Forgotten Realms games ever get.

as it means the company has.. less then perfect qu ality control over the setting as seen in the video games

It's not like the idea was going to get through anyway. I was just rather curious if anyone had the same opinion that I did.
