Noob needs help [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-01-05, 10:04 PM yea i just did get into d&d style gaming i've read fantasy books since forever and i've red tons of forgotten realms books, and i jsut did get into the actuall game rpg thing, so i was wondering if i could just dive right into the forgotten realms campaign setting books or should i start out with some d&d player handbooks stuff? i really have no idea if i would b too confused with starting out on forgotten realms

06-02-05, 12:15 AM The D&D Player's Handbook is all rules. Rules for races, classes, skills, feats, equipment, combat, gameplay, and about half of the book is spell descriptions. It's what you need to know to actually play the game.

The Forgotten Realms Campaign setting and most of the Forgotten Realms supplements are very lore oriented with some rules. If you want, you can read through the FRCS to learn more about the Realms and disregard the rules for now. I did that before I got into 3e, brought the FRCS before the PHB. The realmslore doesn't need the rules. I don't play too often, so most of the time, I get the game supplements for the lore alone.

When you do play, then you'll need to start reading the PHB for the rules to play.

06-02-05, 02:39 PM The rest depends on what you are planning on doing. If you are joining a group of people and you are just a player then that is a very good start. The only other consideration is what kind of character you want. They have supplements for every class and lots of supplements with prestige classes to help give your character character. For recommendations just let us know what kind of character you are starting with and what you hope for him/her to become.

Get a grasp (not saying memorize, yet:D) of the rules, find a game to join and that’s it.
You can figure out where to go from there.
Since you have read several FR books, joining a game in the FR would not be so hard.
