my question is, and like i said before, i'm not sure if this has come up before, are there any realms specific illnesses(ie., vds, cancers,
etc....)

its probably come up at one time or i skipped that reading
i was just wanting to make sure and all of you knowledgable
Realms fans could probably point me in the right direction

i had a great idea for a story and if there isn't anything like that
i was just going to have my character have something similar to
emphysema from smoking too much Tethyrian Bluegrass

i'm sure they do have like illness-i was just wondering if there were names for them in the realms or even like some type of
aliases that real disease go by in the realms. I hope i'm getting my point across.

maybe also is there like down down syndrome in the realms, or autism. stuff like that. i know i'm probably getting a little rediculas with this but i love the realms and want my campaign to be the best it can and follow pretty closely to the great stuff these authors have created so if its out there and i missed it i just want to double check. its my first campaing and i really want my players to enjoy it

10-03-03, 11:06 PM I cant think of any sourcebooks or novels that have those types of things off hand. They might fall under Talona's influence though.

Obviously the Realms doesn't have sophisticated modern medicine and diagnosis, but it has a lot of variously named diseases. Here's a non-inclusive (even for published materials) list.

fevers; blacklung fever, blacktongue fever, marsh fever, shaking fever
diseases; darkrot, typhus (early reference, different name probably used)
wasting diseases (one =leprosy)
rotting diseases
blood diseases
plagues; featherlung, spotted plague, the Shaking Plague (Scardale)
cankers
mental illnesses: paranoia, pyromania, delusions
magical diseases: lycanthropy, mummy rot, green rot/scaly death (Talona)

If you rename this thread something more informative, people who can contribute more will be more likely to see it.
