Strongly disagree (With part of it anyway)

Players should not have access to Monster stats

Players should also not have access to the planar traits and descriptions, but they put that in the PGtF without a second thought...

I liked the old 2nd-Edition Players guide much better. It was a players introduction to the world of Toril, its people and culture. Not endless pages filled with statistics and rules.

I agree that they should have updated all of the 3.0 faerunian prestige classes. The Forest Master is one of my favorite prestige classes, but I got to update it myself and I don't want to because I'm lazy. Oh well guess I can forego my laziness for the sake of the game!

I think that it was noted by Richard Baker that those prestige classes not updated were probably left alone because they were fine as is.

I also agree that the monsters should not have appeared here, neither should have the planar traits (this information appears in the DMG as the planes are meant to be mysterious, there is a Knowledge (the planes) skill for a reason), I also feel that the supplementary OPTIONAL material should not have been included in this book.

I'm also sort of confused as to why the prestige classes in the core rules are in the DMG and not the Player's Handbook at this point...

In general I'd not have called this the Player's Guide to anything, most of the information in it was meant for the DM, at least it was if you compare what appears in the PH to what appears in the DMG. I'd say throw the monsters back in and make it a DM's 3.5 Realms Companion or something like that.

I'm just glad they didn't hand the Karsus Avatar spell to my players.

1) I can only guess, but I'd say they didn't want to overwelm new players with all the choices. As of note, most FR players are more experienced then a beginner of the hobby.

2) The monsters were indeed scheduled to be included into PGtF, were cut for space.
The 3.5 updates were released as a web enhancement.
