| Mystery Man05-28-04, 12:24 PM | Sweet! Giants preview (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mi/20040527a) I've got Tanarukks coming up IMC and this is beyond fabulous. Plus snake people, nagas, and yuan-ti in the next few weeks. The giants pack and the Serpent Kingdoms all showing up right when I need them. I love it when a plan comes together. http://mysteryman.typepad.com//pctgthr.jpg |
| Faraer05-28-04, 12:54 PM | Shame that it's so completely the Games Workshop orc image: green skin, wide flat face. That certainly isn't my idea of Realms orcs. |
| Mystery Man05-28-04, 01:06 PM | Killjoy. they send you into the room to bring the party down don't they? :smirk: j/k Green must be the cheapest color to reproduce. <--hypothesis. |
| ClobberinTime05-28-04, 02:27 PM | I thought it was a tannaruk??? |
| Cunning Linguist05-28-04, 02:49 PM | Too bad it has that anime style look over it.. I'd really like a badass Tanrukk.. that one just look.. cute? |
| trogdor05-31-04, 08:15 AM | I am still to find a D&D figure that looks good. Maybe GW has spoiled me with their models? But I like the Idea to provide their own models to the game. Is the D&D models in scale otherwise? Thier bases covering the right amounts of squares and so? Thanks |
| Chronomage05-31-04, 08:17 AM | Well, it's not exact, but basically yeah. All the bases are circles, ya know? |
| trogdor05-31-04, 09:06 AM | Yes I am aware of the circular base. But as they look now I've to stick to GW models for my gaming group, but sometimes there is no equalent models in their series, like owlbears and such. |

Or the cleric of Lathander? Or the human Psion? Except for their more realistic LotR miniatures the GW minis look to funny and comic style for me, especially with their ridiculously oversized shoulder armors. The quality of details may be better than with the D&D minis, but the overall style of GW minis is just too funny for my taste. A similar problem with Confrontation minis. Some of the most beautifull minis on the market, but in sculpts which are more than strange. |

They have wonderful models perfect to the flavor of D&D, and have many models for even odd D&D creatures (the various outsiders, various varieties of lycanthropes, even a leucrotta in the 2800 line). I buy almost exclusively Reaper, since I don't care much for the WotC minis. As for the tanarruk... gotta say, not really impressed. Compared to the pictures in MoF or RoF, this one just looks like a fat orc. I would have really liked to see some kind of hardcore fiendish orc, with spines for hair, horns and scales, that sort of thing. But, as usual, YMMV. |
| trogdor05-31-04, 07:39 PM | Nice! I really like those Reaper models, really great! One Question, are they in same scale as the GW models, can I mix them without having it looking awkward? Some of the D&D are better than others, yes, but I think that the GW are the better ones if you compare. True that some of theirs look comical, but The elves, darkelves, dwarfs and Brettonians make good (N)PC-mini's. I am still to find a good looking orc-mini though =/ |
| ender06-01-04, 02:32 AM | Originally posted by trogdor One Question, are they in same scale as the GW models, can I mix them without having it looking awkward? The Reaper models are 25 mm; I'm not sure about Games Workshop--but I can tell you that, judging strictly by eyeballing it, they don't look awkward. |
| trogdor06-01-04, 05:17 AM | When I began to collect models (many eons ago) GW called their minis for 25mm, but now they are bigger, maye about 30mm I think as they slowly had them grow. But maybe Reapers have done that too? I mean, if I had a miniture producing company I would make mine the same size as GW just so you could mix them, all those armybuilders are potentional customers! |
| Mystery Man06-01-04, 09:57 AM | Of the Reaper line I like Warlord the best, they're fun to paint. GW is too cartoony and doesn't have a Realms "feel". For a non rare that Tanarukk isn't too shabby. |
| Mirtek06-01-04, 02:31 PM | Originally posted by Mystery Man For a non rare that Tanarukk isn't too shabby. IMO it's accecptable for a common. If it is an uncommon I will be disappointed. @trogdor No doubt that GW minis have more details than D&D minis, but I just absolutely hate to paint minis (so I would have to find someone to paint them for me, which would costs me a lot of extra money), I just don't really like the general flavor of the line. BTW, I can recommend Reaper too, they make greate minis for single monsters and PCs/NPCs. But it you want whole armies, GW is the way to go. |
| trogdor06-01-04, 06:04 PM | I'm not looking to build an army right now and I think that many of the GW models are just to militaristic looking to qualify for a character mini. In the end the mini's are not the most important thing in the game, you cold easily manage with some dies and bases if you want. But again, I love models and I'll always want the best matching and goodlooking ones. (wichever kind of model we are talking about  ) Anyway I don't think there is much more to say about this at the moment. Thank you everyone. |
