Who is he?

Where is he from?

I always thought Cormyr but then I thought it's probably just a cool painting taken from TSR inventory and slapped on the Forgotten Realms Grey Box to make it look cool.

Whatever it may be I can look at it for a long time and let my imagination go wild.

Anybody know?

He's no-one. The illustrator just drew a "dude on a horse".

I think that was the answer when this topic came up a few months ago. Someone mentioned one of the FR trading cards used the same stock image and gave the character a name, but some don't feel that's official enough. That's what I recall of the discussion.

It's a good image, I like it better than the 2e FR box set cover, even if that one has actual FR characters on it.

I think the painting is titled "Horseman Near Lake." So say the various sites I've seen it mentioned.

Dood Ona Horz (AKA 'The Lonely ranger')

Lev10Rngr, lev 6 Undead Slayer.

"Tales tell of a stranger who comes out of the mists just in the nick of time, to lend a helping hand or to fight off the walking dead."

He's been seen from one end of Faerun to the other, usually on the outskirts of swamps and marshes. Legend has it he was the sole survivor of ambush by a pack of undead, some say he himself is no longer amongst the living. Who knows, the only thing he ever leaves behind is a single silver bullet form his strange Lantanese firearm.

This was a rush job, someone else can give him some stats.

I'll take it!

Whoever writes it needs to include True Strike.

Sort of a Realmsian Gunslinger per se.

Just don't write up Susannah! Split personality would be hard to do in game stats!

Actually he is based on the Lone Ranger character from 50's TV. If you really want to keep him true to source give him a Woodelf companion named 'Tonto'. ;)

In a box of Ral Partha miniatures called Forgotten Realms Heroes, and I think on one of the TSR Collector Cards, that character is named Thunderstorm. I don't know where that came from, and don't think it's part of Realms continuity.

I brought this same topic a few months ago and I came up with the same two items. I was just thinking if he's in the heroes miniatures he is obviously somebody. I think all the other miniatures were famous "heroes" from FRs. I don't know!

...that character is named Thunderstorm.

-That's just so very anti-climactic. And, what kind of name is Thunderstorm? Dood Ona Horz is much more fitting, in my opinion. It really captures the essence of the character.

I have to say that I agree.
Something about that name "Dood Ona Horz."
It just grabs you and illicits a strong image of a horse-rider. Male, I would think. Almost exactly like the one on the old box.

I prefer Dûdo Nahors.

I prefer Dûdo Nahors.

-That works, but Dûdo can be too easily confused with Doo-Doo. Ehehehe...;)

Faraer's name is obviously more Faerunian, though!

Dûdo Nahors could be out hunting the orcs of Slapaho and Werda-Foogahwee tribes.

The former are exclusively male and can get no dates.

The later are perpetually lost and make for easy prey for Dûdo.

:heehee

Sorry I could not resist.

Anways very interesting to learn the name Thunderstorm and the source of the artwork.

Thank you very much for that.

I still can look at it for a long time and drink up the details.

-Slapaho I understood. The second? It wasn't until I read what you said that I got it. Must be the difference in our accents. I've used that joke before, and in my neck of the woods, they are called 'The Fukawee.'

You speak Brooklynese (which I have a few language points in). If he's using foog then I would think its more of a British dialect. I have many brits on my main forum and they like to foog. :P

I like Dûdo Nahors better then mine, definately more faerunian (is that even a real word?). Also forgot to mention that his animal companion is his horse, Quicksilver. Normally not allowed, but he's a 'special' guy.

I have to be honest here, I had this concept a long time ago in my 'western' FR campaign. I had just seen the movie Tombstone, so I started a new group North of Maztica, set 200 years into the future.

The town was called Headstone and we had a Doc Hobbitday and Wyatt Elf. I had fun with it, but my players didn't care for the genre and it was definately my shortest lived campaign.

faerunian (is that even a real word?)Sure is. The Faerûnian pantheon, etc.

-You need to make sure to put the 'û', though.

Ahhhh... but if Faerun is itself not a real place, then how can Faerunian be a real word? ;)

Thats one of those deep philosophical questions hat has absolutely no place on a games forum. :P

I have to say that the guy on the box is so much cooler then the generic char's in 3.0. I mean really, whats with all the belt bucles on that sorceror? Hello, can anyone say arcane spell failure?

I much prefer "who would win, The Burger King or Ronald McDonald"

I approach all of those type of questions with equal disdain. :nonono: :banghead:
