| Wooly Rupert04-01-04, 03:39 AM | It seems that a new trouble has arisen in the Realms. 'Tis the influence of an Evil Empire that had previously been unknown in the Realms... Microsoft. "What?!?" you ask, sitting up and sputtering. Yes, folks, the most horrible thing imaginable has happened: Wizards of the Coast has fallen prey to the corporate monstrosity that is Microsoft. Are you feverishly attempting to disbelieve this news? Well, if you don't believe me, click here (http://www.enworld.org/forums/news.php?) and read the sad, sad news for yourself.... I am going to go cry in a corner, now. |
| aravilar_holistacia04-01-04, 03:49 AM | Happy April Fool's day to you too, Wooly Rupert. ;) |
| Ranger REG04-01-04, 04:10 AM | Wooly, Wooly, Wooly... :nonono: If in doubt, check your calendar. But just so anyone outside US knows, April 1st is April Fool's Day, an American custom of playing jokes and pranks. |
| Wooly Rupert04-01-04, 04:26 AM | Okay, now here I was, trying to perpetuate a fun April Fool's joke, and y'all have to go and ruin my fun! :smirk: :P Bad Ranger REG! Bad aravilar_holistacia! No cookie for either of you! |
| ElGrecoETAC04-01-04, 04:28 AM | I could only wish Microsoft would buy WotC. Bill Gates has a history of not caring whether his pet projects make money or not (X-Box anyone?). That way, we would hopefully see equal amounts of fluff and crunch books, no matter what the sales. Too bad it's April Fool's... |
| Gez04-01-04, 04:29 AM | By the way, is the d20 Modern theme for the FR forums a bug or a April 1 feature? |
| Brenigin04-01-04, 06:15 AM | But just so anyone outside US knows, April 1st is April Fool's Day, an American custom of playing jokes and pranks. Ah, I love America. Please educate us on your other quaint American customs like Easter and the English language. ;) All Fools Day has been around since before there was an America. Hey, but you did invent Dungeons & Dragons so we love you for that! |
| Cunning Linguist04-01-04, 06:28 AM | Originally posted by Ranger REG But just so anyone outside US knows, April 1st is April Fool's Day, an American custom of playing jokes and pranks. The history of April Fool's Day, also called All Fool's Day, remains clouded. The theory about the reform of the Gregorian calendar in the late sixteenth-century, is likely to be the most widespread and most accepted. France was the first country to switch from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in 1582. Pope Gregory XIII introduced the calendar for the Christian world. The significance of this switch was that the beginning of the year has moved from April 1st to January 1st. However, there were some people who did not hear about the switch or did not believe it or just refused to accept the change of the date and they continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1st. Others took this opportunity to play tricks on them and called them "April Fools". In essence, they tried to make them believe that something false was actually true and send them on a "Fools Errand". Today in France, April 1st is called "Poisson d'Avril", April Fish. The children of France fooling their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends back and when they discover the prank, the prankster yells "Poisson d'Avril", (April Fish!). from April Fool's Day — All Fool's Day (http://www.inglewoodcarecentre.com/history/april_fool.htm) |

| Mystery Man04-01-04, 06:35 AM | Of course now Microsoft is going to see this joke and think "Heeeeeey...." |
| Ranger REG04-02-04, 04:28 AM | I doubt Bill Gate would want WotC or D&D. He's a Palladium fan. The only thing standing between him and that company is Kevin. :schemes: |
| Purple Dragon Knight04-02-04, 05:44 AM | Boy do I wish Microsoft would buy WotC and put a D&D software (which would connect online through their servers of course, as all their games do) on every gad-dang machines out there... D&D's popularity would soar, and yes, Microsoft would put tons of cash into it, making the PHB available to all for $5.99... ahhh... economies of scale... Actually, if Microsoft can also buy OpenRPG and spiff it up, we're golden, and pen/paper will disappear for good... |

Yeah, but if MS bought D&D, then there would be a new edition every couple of years, and said new edition wouldn't necessarily add much to the game but would consume more resources... :D |

| Ranger REG04-02-04, 09:36 PM | :heehee You see. A perfect marriage. |

In addition, you would never find anyone who says something good about D&D, but 95% of gamers would play it... But Microsoft will never buy Wizards of the Coast. Want to know why? The OGC. Ryan Dancey's idea was to adapt the Free Software model (see http://www.gnu.org/ for more infos) to RPG systems. And Microsoft is the company the most adamantly against the idea of free software. MS could not adopt a company whose business model (at least in one of its departments) is diametrically opposed to the its own business model. |
| Aris Stormdragon04-07-04, 08:36 AM | Yeah, but if Bill Gates bought WotC, at least he'd finally have a product that no one could hack!:D |
