| Khadesh12-14-03, 06:30 PM | Over a decade ago, I played Second Edition AD&D. I had a source book called "Old Empires", I enjoyed it very much and was curious if anyone else ever played in this setting? I assume it is long out of print, but has this area been touched on before in the newer editions? Basically it had a Ancient mid eastern flair but centered around a less Arabic area that followed the Egyptian, Babylonian, and Summerian themes. The land was part of the Forgotten Realms but farther South below Thay I believe. I of course have loaned the book to a friend whom I have not had contact with in seven years. I guess those are the breaks. The coolest part was that it had a sequestered magic system with unique spells that required a "read Southern Magic" spell to find. |

This website (http://www.hallofhero.com/sand/) has a lot of great stuff on it, including a coversion of the Old Empires product into 3E. I'm looking for the .pdf to buy, but I can't find it. I've got a work call that I need to take, so will look later. |

| Khadesh12-14-03, 07:45 PM | Wow! Thanks! I do appreciate it. I never knew they put these books as downloads. When did they start with this? I remember the good old days of having to run off to some convention and buy out of print stuff from the used game dealer. I assume there is no conversions to the newest edition of 3.5? I don't even know 3rd, so I might as well keep my patience and see how it goes. Thanks for the help. :) |

I remember the good old days of having to run off to some convention and buy out of print stuff from the used game dealer. My luck buying out of print stuff was pretty lousy, until I happened onto eBay... Now I've got just about all of the Realms stuff for 1st and 2nd edition. I've even got the Waterdeep and Kara-Tur Trail Maps. :) |
| Herr Doktor12-15-03, 12:25 AM | I got a lot of fun stuff off of EBay as well! It's a great place to go for out of print material. Check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3164419837&category=44112 It is missing the poster map, which sucks, but it sounds like it's in good condition otherwise. I once made an amazing purchase for something like $30 that included The Ruins of Zhentil Keep boxed set, the City Systems (I think that's what it was called? It's burried, at the moment) boxed set with a giant map of Waterdeep, Darksun Monsterous Compendium appendix II, Valley of Dust and Fire, Al-Qadim: Land of Fate (boxed set?) with tons of maps and handouts and such, Corsairs of the Great Sea, the Complete Psionics Handbook, and Van Richten's Guide to Vampires in one bulk purchase. This was before I switched over to 3rd edition (stuck with 2nd edition until late 2001, I believe) so it was an amazing find for me. I've still never played anything Al-Qadim, however. I think I'd better start up an online campaign with conversion to put these old books to good use. Thanks for getting me to dig this stuff out, hehe. :D |
