| Beslan08-15-06, 01:21 PM | My group has been running for a couple years now: We pass the reigns around, skip the clock ahead a bit, and keep going. We're set in the Realms, but we've taken creative license on alot of things, so it's modified. It's my turn, and I wanted to really shake things up, and wanted some opinions on my idea. The basic idea is that after years of preperation and manuvering, Shar is going to try and sieze the portfolio of magic and destroy Mystra for once and all, leaving only the Shadow weave behind. A band of evil adventurers in her service approached the demon Orcus, and offered him a deal. In exchange for his servitude and legions, Shar would raise him to a Diety. Shar had learned of the location of Velsharoons' Pylactery, and through the use of it is able to steal the portfolio of Necromancy and pass it to Orcus, who becomes a minor diety. At this time, carefully gathered forces (mostly Tuigian Horde who were converted and rogue Orc tribes under a charismatic War-Chief) burst from the wastes in the East and begin to conquer. Thay holds out, but is besieged. In the conquered territories, new Clerics of Orcus begin a campaign of conversion, and the church of the new god swells. With his new power to hold his enemies in the Abyss at bay, Orcus is able to dispatch legions of Demons to aid in the conquest. By destroying Mystra's erstwhile servant, creating a new god, and stealing Necromancy, Shar gained a bump in power at Mystra's expense. While this is happening on the surface, things are stirring in the Underdark. Shar's servants make a pact with the Illithid. In exchange for their aid in achieving an objective, they will be given some of Orcus's legions to conquer the Underdark and re-form their empire. The plan is they will control the Underdark, and Shar/Orcus will rule the surface. The objective is Maerymidra (I know I misspelled that). After the War of the Spider Queen (In our version), a rift into the Negative energy plane was left in the ruins of the city. Using the Shadow Weave, Shar's new power, this rift, and an artifact crafted from the remains of Velsharoons phylactery, Shar's servants were able to suffuse the Weave with Phaszres (Again, I misspelled it). This greatly weakens Mystra, and Teleportation magics become very dangerous. As the only un-affected form of Magic is now the Shadow Weave, many magic users flock to it's use. Also, it's a major tactical advantage, as now only Shadow Weave users can use Teleportation with any real effect. Shar's ultimate vision is with Orcus' church growing (he's her servant, and so her power grows as well) and her own disruption of the Weave she have the power to sieze the portfolio of Magic from Mystra. With her gone, the Shadow Weave is the only conduit for spellcasting. She will be the main power on Toril, and steps closer to her ultimate goal of unmaking the cosmos. The Illithid will take the Underdark and enslave the Drow, the Orcs that follow Orcus will be given an empire of their own, the Horde that follows will get theirs as well. The whole of Toril does not need to be conquered: Once the powerbase is established, she believe that the rest will come eventually. Orcs will flock to Orcus, as he has fulfilled their dream of an ascedent empire. Wizards will be forced into her service, and will be twisted into her creatures by the Shadow weave. As their followers swell, their power will increase at the expense of the other dieties who are loosing followers. This is opposed by agents of the good dieties (ie, the players), Orcus' demon foes (who do not like the balance tipped so far to him), the Devils (they may loose the blood-war if a god with massive resources from conquest come at them), and Drow desperate to defend their homes. In the end, the ritual at Maerymidra will be undone, Shars' agents will be destroyed, Velsharoon will be restored, and Orcus will be thrown back down. Without him, his armies will crumble, Shar will loose the power she gained, and her challenge to Mystra will end. That's the basic gist. Any comments, flames, other ideas would be appreciated. Just remember, our world isn't 100% cannon, so I don't mind bending things a bit. |
| Lord Karsus08-20-06, 08:51 PM | -Just a few things: Orcus is not only a Demon Prince, but he alread is a deity. In fact, strangely enough, he was not one, but two deities- Orcus and Tenebreous (I think that's how it's spelled). Orcus would never make himself a vassal of anyone. Orcs wouldn't flock to Orcus, as they have their own racial deities, and Orcus' portfolio doesn't really mesh very well with the average dumb fighting orc. Shar never acts so openly. Everything she does is usually through secrets and subterfuge. Pleanty of good ideas, though. I really like the idea of Velsharoon's Phylactery. It is out there, somewhere. |
