| Casting Kobold10-08-03, 10:15 PM | I'm curious, what have you done with your old DnD stuff. Such as old 2nd edition FR and Handbooks. I resently sold my 3.0 PHB, when i got 3.5, to a person in our games that has no books so hes never ready when he gets there. But other people like the old books around. |
| Ryltar Swordsong10-08-03, 10:20 PM | I still have everything I've ever bought except the Castles boxed set. It had cardboard castle templates. |
| Kuje3110-08-03, 10:32 PM | Yup, I kept it all 1e, 2e, 3e, and 3.5. Why get rid of, actually I make more use of my old material then I do of the new material, because I don't care for a lot of the new realms material. Also I use and buy more 3rd party books then I do WOTC books. |
| chris747610-08-03, 11:56 PM | I save everything. Heck, I'm still buying more old stuff to add to my collection, especially FR stuff. I just bought the 2ed FR campaign setting boxed set because of the huge section on Shadowdale. |
| wanderingminstrelnasheen10-09-03, 12:04 AM | I also kept everything. Why dispose of it? Besides, it's good for reference. |
| Adrian Moonbow10-09-03, 03:01 AM | Kept everything. It fills up 1½ book shelves, but it has a lot of cool reference material. If you are good at converting you'll have a never ending supply of spells, magic items, monsters, etc. to throw into the game! The Realms-lore in the old books are still viable, so...:D |
| Yamo10-09-03, 09:18 AM | Some of us held onto it rather than investing in any incarnation of D&D "3rd" (actually 5th or 6th). |
| Malaug10-09-03, 11:26 AM | I still have everything I ever bought. Now I'm kicking myself over not getting those modules that you see for sale on Ebay for $50 when I saw it in a hobby shop when I was 16 for $6. Damn, Damn, Double Damn. |
| Desies10-09-03, 11:41 AM | Well I am only 16 and didn't get into dnd until 3rd edition was way underway, but all the 3rd edition core books we bought are sitting under my DMs bed in stacks. The rest of the 3rd edtion books we still use though. And about 3rd party books, we try to stay away from most of those. Some like the Big Book of Feats by mongoose just make the characters too powerful. |
| wanderingminstrelnasheen10-09-03, 01:11 PM | 3e in general is too power-gamey. It is too much about the numbers. 3.5 is a BIG improvement. Much more importance in story-telling. There is the capability to power-game, but it is discouraged, unlike 3e, which encouraged and helped you power-game. |

I am in favor of 3.5 over 3rd Edition as I've seen some great improvement in the way somes things are handled and such... But I didn't think it does any of the things you described. Could you explain? |
| n0x10-11-03, 03:59 PM | I started playing when I was 9. Yeah, 9. I played with my 16 year old brother and his friends. Now I am 15 and the three 2nd edition books sit dormant on my book shelf collecting dust opposite of my massive collection of 20 or so 3rd and 3.5 edition books. It was a good gateway to say the least. |
| Lashan10-12-03, 12:15 PM | I let a friend borrow all my old stuff while I travelled for a few years. When I came back, I was missing all my old dragons and over half of the old classic modules. I've gotten some back, but many are gone gone gone. I still have my old 1E hard back books, though. They sell for good prices on ebay? Perhaps I should sell them... |
| BHC_Crow10-12-03, 10:37 PM | I sold most of my 2nd edition books "mainly brown back class/race" books since i didnt like them much anyway. In turn I held onto the important rare stuff. like the Kara tur box set from 1st E. After playing all 3 Ad@d editions i was more than happy to get rid of alot of the 2nd edition stuff. To put it mildly I got tired of the political correctness in 2nd E. and the "watering down" of the classes as TSR declined into publishing really WEAK material. Poor gygax was probably sick to his stomach. But ... maybee now with the way 3rd edition has brought back Power and coolness to the game even Gygax has to be smiling. lol :D I mean really not to start complaining. but when they Came out with spell Jammer and stuff like that. is when other RPGs started taking hold of the RPG market. WoTC might not be perfect. but from what ive seen im very pleased with their deployment of making D@D packed with action again and less on say: "four different publishings on the color of the draperies in a bar somewhere in Water deep. lol |

It was a good gateway to say the least. I started playing when I was nine as well, with my 14 year old cousin, starting with the original Basic set in the purple box...twenty years later, I'm still playing:D I have 10 very large boxes taking up space in my garage filled with D&D stuff from every edition, including the original Chainmail booklets with the tan covers...needless to say moving all that stuff is less than pleasant;) |

I don't have much of my 2nd Edition stuff left, somehow a good portion of it melted out of existence. I had the Ruins of Undermountain 2 boxed set... I no longer have any piece of it. I think I lost it in a basement flood... :( I have the 2nd Edition AD&D PHB, and DMG (sold the MM on Ebay), and the 2nd Edition Realms Campaign Setting, Forgotten Realms Adventures, Ruins of Zhentil Keep and some more. I have lots of AD&D Books (PHB, DMG, MM, MM2, Fiend Folio, Deities and Demigods, and some Realms stuff). |

Aye, well I have all my old stuff, as you can see from the list I posted awhile back, but I STILL would prefer the color of the drapes in a tavern in Waterdeep then what I listed above. |
| BHC_Crow10-13-03, 11:16 AM | LOL Whats sad is some of the things DMs have to do to learn about mid-evil culture. I...(dont laugh. lol) remember reading up on the various Cloth materials to be knowledgeable for my game. example: felt, cotton, linen, So I guess maybee the curtians do matter. lol night all. |
| The Spellcasting Sorcerer10-13-03, 12:12 PM | I started playing back when I was 15, with some of my high-school buddies. I bought a lot of 2e AD&D stuff, but I sold most of it when 3e came along. I regret that, as I've found that AD&D had a certain feel to it that I miss and find lacking in 3E. When I saw Ed Greenwood's name on an AD&D product, such as Prayers from the Faithful, Pages from the Mages, Volo's Guide to All Things Magical, etc; I knew that I was in for a treat, with plenty of Realmslore to delve into (Even now, 8 years later, I find Ed's attention to detail amazing). I get no such sense of anticipation from any 3.0 or 3.5 FR product. :( Don't get me wrong, I still love 3.0 and 3.5, but in AD&D, magic was wondrous, kits were cool, game worlds were all connected via Planescape, and Mystra was Queen of the Forgotten Realms. :D Heh, I go to SVGames a lot to regain much of what I sold for a fraction of the price. |
| Faraer10-13-03, 12:29 PM | I still have my old 1E hard back books, though. They sell for good prices on ebay? Perhaps I should sell them...Use them to run a World of Greyhawk campaign. But ... maybee now with the way 3rd edition has brought back Power and coolness to the game even Gygax has to be smiling. He isn't.I had the Ruins of Undermountain 2 boxed set... I no longer have any piece of it. I think I lost it in a basement flood...You could have picked much worse products to lose. When I saw Ed Greenwood's name on an AD&D productSo much of the integrity and life of the Realms has always come from its origin in actual play. The difference between inspired, passionate writing like Ed's and material made up for money about someone else's world is obvious, and fundamental. |
| Tempus66510-13-03, 02:35 PM | I´m holding onto my 2nd edition core books. The 2nd edition stuff that could be replaced with 3e stuff I did away with. I sold my 3.0 DMG and MM, but am keeping my PHB. 3.5 is the best :mage: |
| Aris Stormdragon10-21-03, 08:10 PM | I still have all my game books, stretching all the way back to First Edition:) " He who dies with the most toys, still dies." |
| Yen-Lo-Wang10-21-03, 09:06 PM | Originally posted by Aris Stormdragon I still have all my game books, stretching all the way back to First Edition:) Starts to take up quite a bit of space after 20 years doensn't it?;) |

| Yen-Lo-Wang10-21-03, 09:18 PM | Originally posted by Kuje31 Very much. :) Yep...my car used to fit in the garage ;) |
| CaffeineGenasi10-23-03, 07:00 AM | I keep source material mostly. Descriptions of Skullport aren't likely to change from AD&D to 3e, so why ditch the book? (Someone said ther were actually 5 or 6 editions...NO DOUBT!! I still can't believe they continued calling that Player's Option crap 2nd Edition. It was less like 2nd ed than 3.5 is than 3e) |
| loki8710-23-03, 10:49 AM | Aside from a few books I've lost over the decades, I still have all my RPG materials since I first started playing in the mid-80's. To me these books are worth their weight in gold, with the amount of joy I've recieved from reading through them over the years. Plus, as others have states, all the old FR supplements are still very valid, since many of the details in those won't be re-printed in 3.x format for many years. |
