Pack animals of FR [Archive] - Wizards Community

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of bizarre pack animals (not your run-of-the-mill horse, ox, etc) Faerunians use. Preferably exotic critters, like the lizards that drow use in the Underdark. Something big would be appreciated. Big enough to put a cage filled with slaves, for example.

Well, actually the reason is this: my PCs are going to start the game as captives of lizardfolk & human slavers from the Surmarsh. And I need something big - maybe the surface version of an Underdark pack lizard - to carry a domed cage, filled with wretched captives.

Blech. I can use the Monster Manuals and create something original, then call it the result of a Thayan experiment. That would be more interesting, I believe.

06-02-06, 08:38 PM Some sort of Dinosaur would work. Big, reptilian, kinda dangerous.

I'm thinking a Triceratops or Stegosaurus would look/work great in this situation. Quadrupedal, large, can carry alot, and can fight when necessary.

06-03-06, 06:00 PM actually if you want REALLY big go with a titanosaur - "big and dumb as a thing can come, but stronger than herd of rothe" think brontosaurus on steroids.

06-03-06, 06:02 PM Brontosaurus isn't a really dinosaur; that's the Apatosaurus. ;) And the Apatasaurus was more of a horizontal sauropod, a Titanosaurus had longer front legs (think of a giraffe) and was less about the length, similar to its smaller Brachiasaurus cousin (Jurrasic Park).

... I didn't want to be a Paleontologist when I was little, really.

on the other hand brontasaurus is the name most of us learned for apatosaurs so I tend to use it to convey meaning to the general public.
and if Titanosaurus is more upright you can always switch to ultrasaurus which is larger and also straight backed like the apatosaurs.
