Pantheon of Gods of magic [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-15-07, 01:36 PM I'm trying to create a pantheon of gods of magic for my campaign, but I am having some trouble finding gods for some of the schools. The ones that I have chosen are as follows: -

Goddess of magic - Mystra (Lawful Neutral) -Greater Power

God of Wizards - Azuth (Lawful Neutral) - Intermediate Power (he has merged with Thoth)

Divination - Savras (Lawful Neutral) - Demipower
Enchantment - Kirith Sotheril (Neutral Good) - Lesser Power
Illusion - Leira (Chaotic Neutral) -Lesser Power (She didn't really die, she's just been deceiving everyone)
Necromancy - Velsharoon (Neutral Evil) - Demipower

I'm thinking of having Finder Wyvernspur taking the school of Transmutation. He is the God of Transformation in Art, and thats the closest I've found to transmutation.

Can anyone think of any Lesser Powers or Demipowers which would fit the other schools. I would prefer them to have a Neutral element to their alignment.

Why can't Azuth take on the Evocation school? As far as I know evocation's the largest school, and I think Azuth could fit evocation. He would automatically become vice-chairman of the pantheon because he has the most practicers.

Talos look like a candidate for evocation too, but alignment problems might ensue.

Angharradh looks like a candidate for abjuration, but she(or is it he)'s a greater power, so.... I guess not.

The elemental dieties can co-own the chair of conjuration, can't they? Or maybe evocation.

I can't think of anyone to take transmutation. Finder Wyvernspar will have to do i guess.

PS: Maybe Elminster for Transmutation and Simbul for Evocation (Hey!)

10-15-07, 09:36 PM Malyk is an alias of Talos known in the Underdark, a god of wild and destructive magic. I think he'd be great for Evocation. I don't think there's anything more than about Malyk to know. I heard somewhere he's a drow wizard who ascended in the ToT, but I don't know if it's canon.

Talos has enough on his plate as it is, so I reckon Malyk should explode messily out of Talos and become a separate entity, a CN one.

I agree with Transmutation for Finder. It'd give him a portfolio worth having.

Halaster the master summoner for Conjuration? :D

10-16-07, 02:21 AM Abjuration:Eldath...ok she might seem like a strange choice but think about it...she does offer the protection domain. She is also call the Mother Guardian of Groves. Abjuration magic is about protection...she is a lesser goddess and NG

Conjuration:I like the idea of Halaster...it just fits....though maybe make him true neutral...that way there is nothing he can't summon.

Evocation:This yough...maybe raise a mortal to this role...though a interesting idea is to give it to the Red Knight. The Tactics of a well placed fireball can neve be underestiminated.

Transmutation: Finder is also a good choice

I can't really use Halaster as a god, because I'm ignoring the stuff about him being dead. I'm having one of his clones awake and take his place as the Master of Undermountain. (As mentioned at the end of Dungeon Crawl: Undermountain - Stardock). And having him both there and as a god might confuse things a bit.
I would have used Khelben and Sylune, but I've already established them as Mystra's main servants. Their both now outsiders on a par with those at the end of Book of Exalted Deeds. Khelben is an angel, and Sylune is an eldarin.

Transformation of Art is pretty damned powerful if one looks at the effects of Art on the culture and society of periods like the Rennaisance and the Enlightenment... as such, I'd put him more in with Enchantment rather than Transmutation, as its more hearts, minds, and ideas, rather than tangible whatever.

I think I'd have given Illusion to Garl Glittergold perhaps, over Leira... think he already holds it anyway, at least for Gnomes.

As I recall, several of the Seldarine, Hanali in particular, had influence over magic, so might consider them for some of those slots. Think she had a lot of interest over Enchantment.

Conjuration seems a little tough though... can't think of much there.

Maybe give Abjuration to Red Knight... planning out your defenses in detail seems a kinda abjurer thing to do. I'm kinda reaching there though I'll admit. :D

I'd give evocation to Azuth myself though, that whole 'Energy' aspect of his portfolio seems a good fit there.

For Transmutation... tough one really. Part of me wants to say Gond, since its rather focal for combining magic and engineering, but that would really limit its scope in a lot of respects. Can't really think of anyone else, but Gond doesn't feel like a great fit to me either.

Just my two copper, good luck with it though. :)
