| MarkHall09-03-07, 08:34 PM | I've something of an odd question... My first DM, the one who introduced me to the Realms, had something of a mania for each party having a name. We HAD to have a name. Of them all, the only two I really remember are Dmitri's Band (which I wasn't a part of, but was named after the wizard's familiar because "We couldn't think of anything better") and the Knights of Bloodstone (who were actually Knights, knighted by the king of Damara; I remember them because I wrote an epic poem about one of our adventures). I realize there are a few famous instances of famous named groups in the Realms, but has anyone else encountered this? Anyone else had any groups that they've named? |
| MerrikCale09-03-07, 08:46 PM | Our has always been (since 1e) The Noble Wolves |
| True_Atlantean09-04-07, 06:30 AM | I insist on any party who want an Adventuring Charter to have a name for the purposes fo the document and also to build reputation/notoriety. The current group refer to themselves as the Order of the Adamantine Blade. Incidently, I like Noble Wolves, it has a neat ring to it. |
| Zarreth_Nessad09-04-07, 12:07 PM | Are there actually any guidelines anywhere about getting chartered in FR? Would the charter cover you anywhere in Faerun? Are there legal issues anywhere if you don't have one and you're "adventuring"? |
| CharginCrusader09-04-07, 02:41 PM | I know Cormyr required registration and getting a charter. Not sure about anywhere else. I do know if you were not chartered and were adventuring in Cormyr you could get into trouble. I believe it also restricted carrying weapons. |
| Lord Karsus09-04-07, 03:46 PM | -I do the same thing, but with magical weapons. Magical weapons must have names. |
| CharginCrusader09-04-07, 07:12 PM | -I do the same thing, but with magical weapons. Magical weapons must have names. You mean long sword +1 isnt a name? ;) :D |
| Yaeri09-04-07, 08:13 PM | No, but mr. Vorpal is. Wow, mister Vorpal I'm a genius. |
| Lord Karsus09-04-07, 08:33 PM | You mean long sword +1 isnt a name? ;) :D -Not unless you want the Ethereal Blue Mummy to kick your character in the nuts... |
| CharginCrusader09-04-07, 08:45 PM | ewwww definately dont want to get tomb rot there......... |
| Lord Karsus09-04-07, 08:50 PM | -Exxxactly...;) |
| MerrikCale09-04-07, 11:56 PM | Incidently, I like Noble Wolves, it has a neat ring to it. Thank you. It barely nudged out the Donner Party in a vote |
| Alurvelve09-05-07, 03:04 AM | In our campaigns we haven't named any of our groups, we usually belong to the Harpers, or Knights of CorMyr etc. We did have a group and we all gave each other nicknames for our chracters. Alurvelve the Untouchable, Drar the Ghost, and then Parwyn(its been so long I've forgotten, I'd have to go through some old notes). Was a fun group to play. We did some Boondock Saint type stuff to those pesky humans of the dalelands. |
| Halidan09-05-07, 09:31 AM | Usually, my players name thier adventuring parties after something (significant or not) that they've experienced in thier first or second adventure. The Seven of Thorns (which often had eight or nine members) was named after a Wall of Thorns spell that they had to overcome to finish off an early villian. The Chesmen were named after the month of Ches, which was when the group was founded. The Dragon's Reflection were named after a faulty mirror of opposition that lay half buried near a wyvern's nest. |
| MerrikCale09-05-07, 09:37 AM | we had a rival party named the Fangs of Dragons |
| Wellin_Adipocere09-06-07, 12:47 AM | I've been recently as of yesterday been knighted into the Frozen Falcons. (being Canadian means being cold) |
| MerrikCale09-06-07, 08:38 PM | I've been recently as of yesterday been knighted into the Frozen Falcons. (being Canadian means being cold) that'd be a cool hockey team |
| MarkusTay6309-06-07, 09:13 PM | Thank you. It barely nudged out the Donner Party in a voteYou suck... I was going to use that... :( :P ;) Our motto: "We may not be the bravest heroes in all the land, nor the strongest, but as long as we have hirelings we'll never run out of food." :D |
| MarkHall09-06-07, 09:31 PM | You know, I think you might have trouble recruiting with that slogan. |
| godbeepit09-06-07, 09:36 PM | You know, I think you might have trouble recruiting with that slogan. Are you kidding me? That's better than any slogan I could've come up with. Besides, there are plenty stupid people to fall for it. As to the OP, we've never had names for anything other than characters and locations. It almost saddens me, but then I remember how fast we go through characters and how hard it is to remember even my own character's name. I even had an easy one! 'Bazel. It's like 'gazelle' but better.' |
| MerrikCale09-06-07, 10:03 PM | Our motto: "We may not be the bravest heroes in all the land, nor the strongest, but as long as we have hirelings we'll never run out of food." :D the bastard one-upped me |
| Crazygx3409-08-07, 05:27 PM | I think naming a group could come from a member of the party , making part of the rpg game. Not just name your party from the begining. Expample if you have a bard in your party he could be prompt to give surname to other or give name to group. Depending of the alignement and race and so on. Or if your party are fat beer dwarf they could name themself Donut's, Beer's and Music's The DBM. Or if you are band of thief you could be named by authority or other guild thieves or just NWO new world order. Name could become more evaluate once your game go.:) |
