Ah, atlast, a Tecken game, set in the realms, just what I always wished for. Those BG games, and NWN had to much RPG, and to few combo buttons to learn.. No, about darn time that they put out this game.. it's what all us rpg fans want. Just listen to the grand things this game has to offfer:

A variety of fighting methods, from three distinct characters: Hack enemies, destroy crumbling columns and shatter ice walls with the fighter; blow apart foes with jaw-dropping spells, and trap groups of enemies under shimmering magical nets with the sorcerer; hide in the shadows and employ sneak attacks with the rogue

Whoha! 3 characters, to kill of monsters in 3 diffrent ways.. can't wait.

Intense, lightning-fast battles against fifteen or more enemies at once; amazing combo attacks and supers that devastate adversaries

Whoha! Just you wait PS2, I'll show you how fast I can push that control pad, I'll beat all your nasty critters!

Character upgrades that can be purchased with experience points; provide the sorcerer with stronger spells or improve the rogue’s stealth and lock-picking abilities

Atleast they did away with D20.. it does after all have nothing to do with Forgotten Realms, or D&D.

Oh, and I know sarcasem is hard to read in posts and such.. but I do hate this game, and everything it stands for. Actors like Stewart and writers like Salvatore can't save this hunk of crap from sinking. And every one who made this game will be standing around and asking: "Forgotten Realms is a huge trademark, how come it did not sell?"

Oh come on D&D: Heroes was a good game and I'm thinking this will be pretty good too. Being that's it's an Atari game as well I see it as a a continuing improvement from the days of Gauntlet!

*weep*

Looks like a cool game, I'd probably buy it if I had the console it's being made for, but I'm sorry, that isn't Ygorl...

What about 'Jet black, skeletal winged Slaad Lord w/ a Scythe' did they miss? Apparently that can be easily confused with hulking, magma infused, fire breathing snake headed demon thing...

Actually I think that's the avatar of Merrshaulk (or Sseth/Tiamat or Set I never remember who killed the snake and took over)...

Well, I'm going to hold off making any judgements until after I've had a chance to actually play the game.

Ygorl doesn't look like he did in the AD&D Fiend Folio, but I'd say he somewhat looks like he did... (At least he has wings :D )

D&D = Drow & Dragons in gaming land - why does every game have to include these creatures

Ahhh, another hack and slash game. The one without the Number Crunching Detail of Adnd. I for one will not even play it. because it suck. Taking a platform games and slapping into 3d world and putting rpg genre into it doesn't make it a rpg game. It does'nt really like the how the whole genre is moving. Linear story with emphesize more on action rather than tactical. It just what 7 year old kid will play, RPG is should be more strategic and more openended style. ok that's my say in this game.

I thought it was Dungeons & Drow

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought to myself
"Wait a moment, the Blackstaff isn't bald"

enough nonsense from me, I'll just go now:D

It's advertised as an action/adventure not a RPG.

It is an action/adventure set in the Forgotten Realms, yes, you push buttons to make the various characters "hack" the enemies... How else would you like to do battle on a PS2?

Also, you've no idea at all what the game will be like. The gameplay that you've witnessed is all combat, sure, that's the exciting aspect of the game, that's the part you want to show off.

People who trash a game they've never even played are pretty silly...

I played The Two Towers game, and thats the same engine that this game uses.. took me about 10 min to understand what a wast of time that game was.
Now you might say: Two Towers is a whole other game, it has nothing to do with this game. But in game terms, engine has everything to say. You can't reskinn Doom3 into a SIM game, and you can't reskinn Two Towers into a good game.

And you don't need to make a pure Hack and Slash game even when it's on a consol. Look at Knights of the Old Republic from Bioware.

I'm glad if it's a pure hack & slash, because I don't have a PS2!!

No, Scifi.com is not an RPG site.

I don't think you can really look at this in terms of hack-and-slash or role-playing intensive, as it is not a role-playing game to begin with. The game looks like a Sword and Sorcery beat-um up, an action/adventure. It certainly won't be D&D. I enjoyed the Golden Axe style D&D arcade games of old, they had their appeal, and I'm sure this game will as well.

Ygorl does look a little odd, but perhaps that's mislabeled, or perhaps he has chosen to appear that was on behalf of the yuan-ti that seem to serve him. It would deliver a better feeling of nostalgia if he appeared as he did in the Fiend Folio, though.

That does not codemn the game in my eyes though, it may be fun, I'll have to wait and see. I'm at least interested in discovering how well it depicts the Realms that I love.
