| Jack in the Green06-18-03, 11:44 AM | Hi Everyone! Love the new boards!!! I have an adventure idea for some starting characters and would like some help fleshing it out. I'm thinking a small villiage in the Dalelands is experiencing some wierd stuff. Disappearances, wells running dry, crops dying, that sort of thing. A phaerimm hiding out nearby is behind it all and is trying to destroy the village. I'd like to get some mystery going along with some good roleplaying opportunities along with some serious combat. Enough to get my players up to a sufficient level to disover, battle and destroy this phaerimm. Any suggestions? I'd like to slap some levels on this guy, maybe some spells from Lords of Darkness and the BoVD. Suggestions? Anything would be great. Thanks! |

As for the question of why would the phaerimm want to destroy a city, that's easy-they seek to exterminate all life. So no need to go further on that point. The phaerimm knows that sooner or later he will be found, so while his lifedrain spells are taking effect, he seeks to intmidate, charm, and threaten local humanoids to serve as his bodyguards and troops. Being in the dales, the Phaerimm approaches one of the drow clans in the area, promising them easy raids on the hapless communities-as streams of refugees leave the dying lands with their belongings, the drow would set up ambushes and murder and steal to their heart's desire. So you could slap in the drow in the adventure..maybe a drow outpost allied to the phaerimm, in constant communication with it, that the PC's can assault and vanquish. Other parts of the adventure would include to hunt down the humanoids that the phaerimm has under his command, and to get clues to the phaerimm's whereabouts. Perhaps some of the humanoid leaders can be persuaded to tell the whereabouts of the lair. Another interesting side-quest would be to petition shade for aid once the phaerimm threat is discovered. That would involve a lot of charisma-based checks, diplomacy, to get them to spare enough troops to send (after all, they are already engaging the phaerimm in evereska at this point, so it wouldnt be trivial to get them to help). Also, it would be interesting to see how the PC's and the shades interact with each other beyond strict professionalism, which might lead to open fighting with the shades themselves, or maybe forming an alliance. hope this helps |

I like the Drow sub plot, I never thought to use them although I would rather use them sparingly since they seem to be so overdone lately. I had planned on something with the shades either pitting them against them or working in competition with them. But I do like the moral dilemma involved with the players actually having to ask them for help, 'specially for the ultra goody goody players. Another idea I had was; perhaps there's an aritifact the phaerim is using or wants to get ahold of that the pc's can compete against the drow and the shades to try to get to first. But what? But if there's any other side quests or subplot devices anyone can think of let me know please! |
