Kasmiur 01-16-04, 11:59 PM	So I was bored at work and checked the Weather in Waterdeep page. Saw the moon phases and made a theory on how it cycles. Now after a week I see my theory was correct. So I generated a Complete moon chart for the Year of 1375 in faerun. You can use this as a base and make a moon chart for any year but I recommend just using this as a basis for your players if they ask what the moon is. I figured the moon cycle is 4 days for each except for Full moon and New Moon. Kasmiur 01-19-04, 08:50 PM	Each moon phase except for the New moon and Full moon are 4 days long. So it would be like this Phase, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8, With the fourth phase being New moon and 8th being the Full moon. 1 : Waning Gibbous 2 : Last Quarter 3 : Waning Crescent 4 : New Moon 5 : Waxing Crescent 6 : First Quarter 7 : Waxing Gibbous 8 : Full Moon :EDIT: Just read that Faerun follows the leapyear also. So when going into the future or past dont forget to add a day for the leapyears. Which fall every 4 years. I figure divide the year by 4 to find out if it is a leapyear. /EDIT Each year in faerun being 365 days and the lunar calander equaling 30 days means that each year in the future you subtrack 5 from the moon phase. and every year in the past you add 5 days. So to figure out moon phase for 1380 the full moon for Hammer would first appear on the 5th then be completely full on the 6th and then 7th start to lessen. On the other hand to determine what it was 5 year before the full moon would appear first on the 25th then be completely full on the 26th and lessen on the 27th. I did this by watching how Wizards did it on the Weather in waterdeep page. Also if your running a campaign were lunar cycles matter I would recommend searching the net and finding pictures of our moon at the different phases and printing them out. Makes for a good reminder to the players that they are fighting this undead creature on a new moon. :EDIT: Also I was going to take the Faerun calander I have and add moon phases to that. I dont suspose anyone knows where I can find a jpg or bmp version of it. I could load it up and take a screen shot or scann it but can't do that at work sadly.. they apperently dont like me bringing in computer equipment.. like I actually work or something..:-)
Kasmiur 01-25-04, 03:51 AM	So I checked the website and the dang thing showed a moon phase that was different from my chart. So back to the drawing board. Also dont forget that the year 1376 is a leap year.

Not to my knowledge it never has..... Realmspace lists it as having one, the campaign box sets always said one, etc......

I certainly can not recall any references to a second moon... Selūne is the only one. Perhaps you're thinking of the Tears of Selūne, a bunch of asteroids that trail behind the moon?

Does it vary like IRL? I seem to remember seeing something about that somewhere, but not sure where. It can matter in the case of clerics who need to pray for spells at certain moon-dependent times. Anybody know?

The moon and sun rise would vary from season to season and from climate to climite just like in RL.... Page 76 of the FRCS is a little help.

In campaigns I've played in, we usually just end up having spellcasters who pray for spells "after moonrise" or whatever, pray for them at midnight to make things easier.

Yeah, can't forget the evil black moon there. :) Usually PC's who need to pray after moonrise just do it before they bed down.
