| Brix09-19-06, 04:21 AM | Since there is unfortunatly not much on it in the new Moonsea thingie: I would like you to share you experience with the old-as-a-bone adventure Ruins of Adventure. However, this thread may be only appropriate for gamers 30+ years old :D Since the adventure is very much a skeleton, I would like to know about the things you added to make it a roleplaying experience. How did you fill Phlan with life? Thanks. |
| Delzounblood09-19-06, 06:00 AM | Whoah this is going back awhile.... Remember the PC game " Plink Plink Crunch" Well to ans your question depends on your party... I threw allsorts at the town Orc hoards from the north just as phlan was getting back on it's feet, Slavers from Zhentil Keep abducting council members and towns folk, The Thieves guild being part of a larger group with having ties to Hilsfar. This did not happen all at once but added to the adventure in major ways but we did manage to kill Tyranthraxus in the end. I still use the layout of the Keep for a generic fort now!! Ah the good ol days.. |

Thanks. Wow, this brings back memories. I ran a campaign in the early 90's in Phlan. The PC's were friends and relatives of a mercenary band that had been hired to gaurd the walls of "civilized" Phlan. The mercs were under the impression that they could bring dependents along with the posting. That wasn't the case, so all of these dependents had to fend for himself. Living in what passed for civilization in Phlan was hideously expensive, and soon the dependents had to earn a living. Some of them decided to become adventurers. Encounters in civilized Phlan included a lot of sneeky types - black marketeers, pick pockets, camp followers and other unsavory types. I ended up detailing a number of blocks in the "slums" area of town for low-level types to clear. Small goblin encampments, buildings inhabited by homeless folks, ruins with vermin, etc. I also used the ropework encounter from the computer game and most of the stuff from the module. The campaign ended before we even got to Sokal Keep, so I didn't have to detail too much of Phlan. I probably would have used most of the computer game as well as the module. |
