Okay, I'm not going to gripe about how drow look, because in all honesty, this is a matter of personal choice. My issue is how drow have been changed according to the rules, and how the rules differ from the continuing depiction of them in the novels. Here are some of my issues, and possible ways to adjust the rules to suit them.

Rule: Drow with Intelligence 13+ can cast dancing lights, darkness, and faerie fire once each per day.

Depiction: Drow are often shown using darkness and faerie fire multiple times a day, cutting them on and off as they choose. Also, until recent novels, Drow were often depicted as dropping globes of darkness upon their foes at a distance, rather than by touch. However, I have never heard or read of a drow using dancing lights.

Adjustment: Make drow innate abilities alterable in duration, similar to the Improved Levitation feat from Underdark, in that the drow may break up the duration of their innate abilities as they see fit, activating them as a standard action and dismissing them as a free action. With regard to darkness, I am torn as whether to leave the spell as is or adjust it's range to close (25 feet + 5 feet/level). Suggestions?

Rule: Drow may select the Highborn Drow feat from Underdark in order to gain access to their other "common" innate abilities; detect good, detect magic, and levitate.

Deptiction: This works well with the depiction of common drow being less powerful than the noble born that is apparent in almost all of the availible literature on drow.

Adjustment: This I actually like, though I believe that the Highborn Drow feat should be selectable as a regional feat for drow characters. In addition, these new abilities should also have alterable duration as above.

Just some ideas for now...

The feat, Magic in the Blood, located in the Player's Guide to Faerun, allows a creature to use its spell-like abilities three times per day.

The feat, Deeper Darkness, found in Races of Faerun, allows a creature with a darkness spell-like abilty(drow, tieflings, ogre magi) to cast deeper darkness three times per day.
