| P33KAJ3W12-03-03, 02:57 PM | In April we will be ending the quest my charicters are curently embarking on (crosses fingers) and begining on a Forgoten Realms Campaign. 2 questions: 1) Should I have my players purchase the Player's Guide to Faerûn AND/OR The Races of Faerûn (In other words will the Players Guide suplement RoF or will it include most of it) 2) Should my players have copys of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, it seems very DM only to me... Thanks in advance! |
| Another Gnome12-03-03, 03:26 PM | 1) Most of RoF content (such as additional races) will *not* be addressed in PGtF. 2) FRCS will be practically background information (DM stuff) only, after PGtF updates its mechanical side. If they get PGtF, I'd say there's no reason for players to get the FRCS unless they want to learn about the Realms fluff (assuming they don't know the Realms beforehand). Depends on how close to the official campaign you intend to play, I suppose. Running in the "true" Realms, it may in fact improve the experience if the players know what's where and how things work in general, but it may also make them feel "cheated" if you change a lot of things and have their learning efforts go to waste. |
| Cunning Linguist12-03-03, 03:27 PM | If you have the cash, all of them. Races of Faerun, is only for what race you are going to be, it has no big history parts, and no pure region part. Players Guide to Faerun will have lots of stuff for players, and lots of new stuff for the DM, but it will not be anything like FRCS. Seeing how PGtF will be 196 pages long, and FRCS is 320 pages long, and the font size is somewhat smaller then the normal books. |
| P33KAJ3W12-03-03, 03:32 PM | If my Players purchase the FGCS and I stick to it like glue (I plan too...) will it hamper me or give them an advantage? |
| Cunning Linguist12-03-03, 03:34 PM | advantage, since the players will feal like its a real world they know, and not just one you made up. |

| Another Gnome12-03-03, 03:44 PM | If my Players purchase the FGCS and I stick to it like glue (I plan too...) will it hamper me or give them an advantage? Well, the plot ideas in FRCS might become less useful if your players know what to expect. On the other hand, I can say from personal experience with my players that having less surprises is a small sacrifice compared to needing to explain everything to them all the time - it can get a bit frustrating at times when the player of a two-hundred-year-old elven bard doesn't even know what Evermeet is. When playing in a world that has huge amount of background and history, it'd be a terrible waste not to use it. D&D is not a competition between the DM and players, and as long as everyone in the group understands that, there's no accessory that couldn't be used to make the gaming more enjoyable to everyone involved even if there was some or even all "DM-only" content to it. But it has its risks, definitely. * * * RoF is "almost" 3.5 compatible. There are some details in need of tweaking, but basically it works as is. Or at least that's what I've heard... I still haven't actually seen the book... :( |

| Jack in the Green12-03-03, 04:02 PM | RoF is 3.5 compatible. edit - Oh, and welcome to the best damm campaign setting you'll ever DM :ayyyy!: |

I am so excited to DM F. Realms!!! I am on page ~75 of the FRCS and am just stoping to creat a first level charicter so my Group can see it and get a feel for it... Any offical Charicter sheats out? Thanks! |
| Cunning Linguist12-03-03, 05:01 PM | RoF is 3.5 compatible They said it would be, but it's not. Fey'ri still follow the old system, feats do not follow the "spellpower gives +1 spell level, not DC" rule. So not 100%, but it's mostly fluff. |
| Cli' San Aquanova12-03-03, 05:48 PM | Could anyone explain what PGtF details? Like what, equipment, feats, etc? |
| Kuje3112-03-03, 06:09 PM | Originally posted by Cli' San Aquanova Could anyone explain what PGtF details? Like what, equipment, feats, etc? My Notes: Some of this got cut for space reasons, and he posted this awhile ago so as I said this is a bit dated because of the cuts. Richard Baker posted on 10-07-03 01:40 PM I'm such a nice guy, darn it. You guys are lucky; the editor actually listed out each specific feat and spell in the ToC. No such luck with the magic items, but I figure this will give you plenty to talk about! | Jem Purplefeather12-03-03, 11:06 PM | I'm a bit upset! I was hoping for Wizards to update the Faiths and Pantheons Prestige Classes to 3.5 Edition in this book! Damit! I guess they just ran out of room! Also, where are the Avariels? Darn...so much material...so little room... |

Since RoF is mostly 3.5 complient.... |
| toftof12-05-03, 09:55 AM | Hmmm I was hoping there will be some stuff about the year of rogue dragons, I'll buy the book anyway but it might not have an impact of the timeline as the war of the spider queen or the return of the archmages....hopefully |
| Valthran12-05-03, 01:40 PM | I notice that they appear to have dropped the warsling sniper from the prestige class list. I was hoping FR would apply some sort of fix to 3.5 changes to the sling that make it the only ranged weapon that is limited to one attack per round. I was hoping for some sort of rapid reload that would apply to the sling. |
