| Cha0tic g0od04-25-04, 09:15 AM | I am playing a rogue, There is a Paladin Of Torm, A halfling Druid, A half Orc Barbarian, Half Orc Barbarian druid of Kord (think he is half), and a wizard/archer mostly archer. The Dm is way cool and he knows his ****. I am getting fustrated and I dont want it to ruin the group. Just Friday night while my character was on watch I heard noises so I went to look (instead of waking group) I ended up fighting a Giant worm and almost died if it weren't for my group waking up for the noise of battle. The reason I had fought because I wanted more excitment in the game. Could I be expecting too much? Thursday nights I play in a group of 15 level players, could this be effecting my play/attitude on fridays? Like I said the DM knows his ****. I dont know if he is amazed or confused about our actions. So do you guys have any ideas? Thanks |
| roler04-25-04, 01:07 PM | Maybe you are just bored. Does the DM run the Friday night game as well? On a roleplaying issue, does your PC have a low Wis or Int? Because then going off without telling his party was right on the money. Unless you play him as supremely curious and always getting into trouble. Do the other players act the same way you do? You should tell the DM how you are feeling. |
| AvengedMutablegenus04-25-04, 02:18 PM | Yeah, talking to your DM can resolve 99% of your problems in life, especially if your DM is one of your teachers or parent or girlfriend |
| Cha0tic g0od04-25-04, 08:56 PM | thanks guys the Forgotten Realms is friday night and the 15th level is thurs. wisdom 15 int 16. But I am always running off robbing and the like. I am the new guy in the group and dont want to cause riffs the wizard/archer wants to run away all the time (I'd like to sneak attack his ass) the paladin is more of a gung ho type dude who is a veteran in RPG |
| Autosponge04-26-04, 06:35 PM | If you're a new guy running around robbing things and there is a paladin in the group (and I were DM) I'd talk to you first. You'd either stop doing what you're doing or I'd manage to get your character killed and not tell you where the next session is being played at. Sounds like you're bored and you're being a jerk at the same time. |

A rogue is a spy so if he gets info out of a castle/dungeon (maps) isn't that his role? Jerk, I dont know but it seems like you took offense to something I stated, if you did I apoligize! And if I did can you tell me what? |
| Autosponge04-26-04, 08:49 PM | Rogues don't have to steal. Sleight of Hand can be used for concealing a weapon in a bar fight or entertaining small children. Don't be so shallow. If you can't spot the problem character in a problem campaign, it's probably you. You "run around robbing things" and try to solo stuff in the middle of the night while on watch. Sounds to me like you're the problem character. |
| Forsaken_Rocker04-26-04, 10:50 PM | wow, you are kindv an ahole. Any way just because the dm knows his asterik asterik asterik asterik asterik doesn't mean his campaigns are exciting. Experienced pcs like challenges (and playing strict rule style which blows) a dm who might not know everything might add some varity, not the same iron vaulted door with the same dc to break every time. Newcomers like expeirencing all the game has to offer first, such as a siege, or an underdark campaign the whole thing. If the dm's campaigns are boring, he might be doing the same stuff over and over again, he might have a boring story line that doensn't keep you in any kind of anticipation or suspence. Or maybe you just want to try somethin different, maybe a starwars campaign or something simmialr but also quite different. you should talk to him, or maybe try DM ing yourself, |
| Forsaken_Rocker04-26-04, 10:52 PM | and anyways, who gets into barfights and entertains small children, sounds like a drunken *** to me |

| Cha0tic g0od04-27-04, 11:46 AM | thanks again guys, someone has issues |
| Falstaff the Fighter04-27-04, 12:52 PM | Well, there is an issue here if the pally is just allowing you to go and rob things. A paladin and a theifly rogue in the same group is a recipe for diseaster. What is your alignment? Certainly not likely good, which could also put you at odds with the pally. |
| Raenestro04-27-04, 02:24 PM | You didn't go into any detail as to what it is about the Thursday group that's frustrating you; just that you're frustrated and looking for input. But without more to go on, there isn't anything that anyone can give you other than wild speculation based on their own interpretations of what you've said you've done. The impression I got is that you're bored and possibly not a good fit for the already-established Thursday night group. You're the newcomer to that group though, you shouldn't be the one looking to "spice it up". If they've been playing long enough to get up to 15th level, then odds are that the the game already has all the spice they like. Regarding rogues-as-thieves, it's all in how you want to interpret them. In my experience, playing a rogue as a self-serving thief causes more trouble than it's worth. Not only does it cause dissention within the party, but the only one having fun with that is the thief player. But, again, that's just in my experience with the people I commonly game with. Every group is different. And it may be that one simple thing that's throwing you off: Your Thursday group is different from your Friday group, and so that's got you thinking something in the Thursday group needs to change. |
| Mystery Man04-27-04, 02:40 PM | I've never had a problem with a rogue going off and robbing things. As long as that player knows that its always possible to get in over his head. If its for the good of the party then they may be more inclined to save your arse from the hangmans noose (so to speak) if your caught. What the paladin doesn't know wont hurt you, better hope he doesn't find out :). Stealing from your fellow party members however is always an unwise course of action. |
| Cha0tic g0od04-28-04, 05:46 PM | Teh problem basically is with the wizard/ archer he runs away all the time, and there is a bunch of bull talk during session, one of the half/orcs, no he is an orc is too precise in his actions, thats probably why he dont succeed in somethings. the tursday night group is the 15th level its the friday night that 4th level. 3 of us are old timers playing since the 80's. When I do rob it is for the group. The problems lye with the 4th level group. Could it be I am just used to plying with seasoned players? |
| Forsaken_Rocker04-28-04, 06:07 PM | I think that playing with newbs (im not insulting them its just a saying) can be annoying, so throw the players handbook at them and stick a gun by their neck and keep it there untill they finish. Realistically if that is the case, sit with them and try to explain stuff or just have them read the PHB. btw a orc who is precise with his actions, sounds very unlikely, orcs are really dumb and careless. also an orc fighting on the same side as a paly VERY unlikely. |
| Cherrn04-28-04, 06:54 PM | Maybe you are just more into a hack'n-slash kinda campaign Cha0tic g0od than one that features loadsa conversations and general roleplaying. So you might have a feeling that the DM who knows his stuff is more of a roleplayer than a hack'n-slasher which you like better and is used to from the high lvl campaign you play Thursday night :) |
| Cherrn04-28-04, 07:00 PM | ***Stupid double post |
| mortellan04-29-04, 12:39 AM | I am playing a rogue, There is a Paladin Of Torm, A halfling Druid, A half Orc Barbarian, Half Orc Barbarian druid of Kord (think he is half), and a wizard/archer mostly archer. The Dm is way cool and he knows his ****. The DM knows his Forgotten Realms stuff? I'll give 1XP to the person who sees the error. ;) |
| Kuje3104-29-04, 12:46 AM | Originally posted by mortellan The DM knows his Forgotten Realms stuff? I'll give 1XP to the person who sees the error. ;) Well maybe the barb/druid came from Greyhawk and that's why he worships Kord. :) |
| mortellan04-29-04, 12:52 AM | *1XP granted* Good assumption, I just found it funny and couldn't continue reading the thread. With the smorgasbord of deities in FR, why play outside that pantheon though? |
| Boz Shulun04-29-04, 02:04 AM | You’d think that as an orc (or half orc) he would worship either Gruumish or Bahgtru, unless those deities were too evil aligned for him. Then the next logical choice would be Uthgar. But given the choice between Uthgar and Kord, I would throw my hat in with Kord any day (but that is IMO of course). As for the rogue issue… a sneaky, untrustworthy thief that does things under the nose of a paladin that is too oblivious to his party member’s actions. I could see that. If the paladin’s player were truly playing him that way. In my experience doing deceptive (or evil) things behind another character’s back can only go on for so long and remain believable. Not unless the paladin (or other good moral compass member of the group) had a low wisdom and could be duped often and for a long time. Usually the situation breaks down and the party breaks up or it comes to blows. Having a new player join a long time group can be taxing. I think that you should pick your spots when it comes to overtly roguish behavior. Running off while on guard duty is not a good way to endear your self with your other party members. I’ve run games were the rogue ran off while the others were sleeping to go ‘exploring’. Usually the others would find him later in the adventure, staked to a wall or sucked dry by a flight of stirge. Originally posted by Forsaken_Rocker ... a orc who is precise with his actions, sounds very unlikely, orcs are really dumb and careless. also an orc fighting on the same side as a paly VERY unlikely. About as ridiculous as a good Drow… oh, wait… this is a FR board. Forget I said that. |
| Cha0tic g0od04-29-04, 06:10 PM | Originally posted by mortellan The DM knows his Forgotten Realms stuff? I'll give 1XP to the person who sees the error. ;) well the fact that he let 2 orcs(thier players died) into a party of 2 elves (me and the wizard/elf) is an error |
| Cunning Linguist04-29-04, 06:26 PM | Well, Orcs don't have that much bad rep in the south.. perhaps they are running the game there? |
| Forsaken_Rocker05-01-04, 01:10 PM | yah i know what youre saying, i did say rare not impossible DRIZZT HATER (jk).....maybe |

If you can't tell the difference then maybe you shouldn't make the post!" Also remember there is no "right" way to play the game. Show some tolerance for those who play using a different style. |
