Would FR be considered a High, Medium, or Low powered campaign? Why do you think so?

It all depends on what your DM has in stock for you. I personally like the high powered option, because even then, ability scores don't get too high.

The realms are all three and none at once....sorry, being weird as usual. Um, I think realms is all three but it seems to have a lot of adventure opertunities for high level or epic characters and for low level characters, but the medium level power is a little bare bones. There usually isn't too many adventures in the Realms, based for characters in the med power range.

Eh, I might be off your topic though with that explaination. Well thats my 2 copper.

Use the 32-point system with the FR. I've played/DMed in FR campaigns that used 25, 28 and 32, and every single time we used something lower than 32 we did not nail "that FR feel" to it...

Sorry, not a very scientific answer, but lower than 32 just sucks in FR. It's definitely a high-powered campaign that gets better and better as you gain more levels.

It's for the DM to determine, but I would agree with the others and say the 32 points is really what needs to be used. Even then, scores do not get extremely high. IMO, the general feeling that exudes from the realms is one of extreme power and magic - definitely a realm where PCs are more heroic than ever.

As opposed to, say, a homegrown world where magic is scarce and there are no super NPCs or gods meddling with the business of mortals.

Actually, I use medium in my FR game. I prefer the gritty and realistic approach then the overpowerd approach. I also play a medium magic world, too.

Looking at the NPC's in the Realms I usually give players 42 points for characters if I even use point buy. Normally I prefer to use 4d6 drop the lowest and allow 1's to be rerolled. It's how my group has done ability generation for a long time.
