hey all

I have uploaded some maps that I have created in photoshop to my site. The maps are of all the crypts for the module "Pool of Radiance", set in Forgotten Realms Myth Drannor. There are to miniature scale (1 inch = 5 foot) and are set up on A3 paper (420mm x 297mm).

I print them out in colour, spray glue them to some thick card and then cut the passageways and rooms out with a blade (removing the white). I think about how the players are going to come into the dungeon so that I cut intelligently at intersections, laying each next piece of map down as they discover it. There are some cutting guides on some of the maps.

I have included a plan (scanned from the module) of each crypt so you can figure out how to put all the pieces together. Or if you are going to use them to make your own dungeon... go wild.

So, if you are playing or plan to play the "Pool of Radiance" module and have tons off cool DnD miniatures, download the maps, get them printed and mounted and impress your players.

Alternatively, you can use the crypts for the random dungeon play from the Miniatures Handbook.

You'll also notice counters and other stuff on the site. I am not making any more counters as I have been bitten (badly) by the miniature bug and cannot get enough of them. However, there are counters for creatures that have yet to be moulded.

The address is www.denestor.com and you want to go into the "behind the screen" section to find the maps. There are other maps... but not as well made (in my opinion) as the most recent crypt maps.

best regards and happy gaming

ps: i have also placed this post in dnd miniatures and DMG as I think both forums could benefit from the maps... not just forgotten realms people.

:D

Wow! Thanks for sharing! I'm running my group through Pool of Radiance right now, and they have mostly cleared out the Tower of Bones, so the timing is perfect.

Thanks again,

Halornn.

Very well done. Since I spent the time to dl all of them, might I suggest adding a link for DM's with less spare time to a .zip file with all the maps.

I honestly think this is the sort of thing that should be included as a free (or maybe low cost) download with every module. If there were several modules in print with this available, not only would I sign up to subscribe to the printable maps but I'd probably be more inclinde to buy modules. Hopefully someone in WoTC is listening.

Good idea Autosponge... I will add zips to the site when I can... sorry to make you have to download each individually.

I agree with your idea, I haven't added it to the site, but I did create a map for the final cavern in "Forge of Fury" where the black dragon has made its lair. It was huge, but absolutely necessary. The players were terrified of not only the dragon, but the fast flowing icy cold water that could also spell doom for any who slipped. I will add that map (or series of tiles) too.

I think with the widespread use of miniatures in the game, it makes sense to make more maps (visually rich with tons of detail) for these figures to stomp around on. WotC have made a few dungeon tiles for skirmish, but nothing bigger. *shrug*

Another good idea: I bought a huge thick black cloth to drape over our game table. This really punched up the artwork of the crypts as they were against a black background... as opposed to a patterned white and cream table cloth. yeeuch!

Halornn_Kaala.... excellent. Makes me happy to know that there are thse who can use them. Good luck, and don't go to easy on the players... hope yo have a few NPCs to suffer horrible deaths. These are ancient nasty elven crypts - you know. Laugh... the sun elf in the group couldn't wait to get to myth drannor before the module... now he just wants to go back to suzail and drink some pseudo elven wine with nice simple humans. *chuckle*

I like but I wish someone would do maps in hexagon instead of square.

No one uses hexes for indoor maps. The rules specify square.

Actually, Hexes used to be exclusive to outdoors for D&D, with the square for indoors (easier to draw maps.) And yes while the "core" books like the use of squares for everything (and maybe the minitures book too - I dont have that book) I have found that hex grids are actually better for "skirmish" style play, such as D&D. Also in the new Unearthed Arcana book, they mention and give hex templates for those who perfer the hex grid. In all actuallity the Hex gives a better and more realistic facing than a square ever could.

Well, unless you use UA, there's no facing anymore either.

 naw...cant be...that just wipes out a bunch of feats that I think are still part of 3.5... Uncanny Dodge, etc....

Hi all,

Just added the main pool chamber of the "pools of radiance" module. I have made a thumbnail (so you can see how it looks before downloading the zip). The map measures 45 by 33 inches but I have tiled it into 9 parts that fit on paper 15 x 11 inches.

I had to cheat just slightly from the map in the module to fit it neatly into the size I decided to design it.

My site, is as usual, http://www.denestor.com - go into the "behind the screen" section... the links to the files are near the top (above the crypt links).

If you need an explanation of what is what... first consult the module, and if still confused... post a question here.

Enjoy.

PS: Thanks WizO_BigSister :) for the link. Only just read your post.

Thanks again, Yggdrasil! BTW, I ran a game last week and the players really enjoyed the maps (they were working their way through Lyssic's Crypt). When they got to the first room that was flooded they all crouched around the map, yelling "No way! There's dead bodies floating in here!".

I'm not positive, but I think your map for the Secret Cache room in Lyssic's Crypt might be on a 5-foot scale instead of the 10-foot scale that the rest of the crypt was on. When I assembled everything, it looked shrunk, so I checked the dimensions and I think that's the problem. It was no biggie, I just doubled the size and re-printed.

Thanks DarkRealm... there will be more coming soon, and hopefully in a more usable form. Something you can just lift and use in your campaign. It'll probably be up within a week or two.

Halornn: your post made me giggle with evil mirth. Excellent... my players also leaned forward, none of them wanted to enter the dead water and eventually suggested the half-orc monk (who knows no fear as he ate a heart of a black dragon) go in alone to search them. It was fun.

You are probably right on the money about the small secret cache chamber. I neglected to make it when I first made the crypt... and did it afterward to post on my site so that others could have it. I must have messed up the scale... time allowing... I'll check it out.

So... I take it you haven't got to the main chamber yet? Good. I didn't make the upper levels as I didnt expect there to be too much action above the pool chamber. Something that worked out great for me were the mythal ghosts... this really freaked my players out... they don't like ghosts at the best of time (all of them a little precious about their strength scores)... and even thought the mythal ghosts cannot drain abilities... they don't know that.

:( And then some sorry news... my final map of the cavern from forge of fury (I know - not a FR module) was lost when I upgraded machines at work. It's a real loss as I spent hours on the dang thing and it would have been nice to post to my site. Oh well, just have to make some more.

Things to look forward to:

My players will be starting "city of the spider queen" soon. I don't know how many of the maps I will make... there are a lot of them... but definitely the ones where there is lots of action. Each tile has to fit on 15 by 11 inches... so there may be some minor editing to fit the dungeons and caverns into this format. But I'll tackle it as it comes.

I am truly very happy that others can use the stuff I make. Makes a warm fuzzy feeling inside (It's probably red dragon indigestion). ;)

Plus, as I hinted above to Darkrealm... some player handout material in the next couple of weeks.

No, they're still in that first flooded chamber. Our last game went two hours long because the ranger decided to attack the two statues in that room, and the group was ill-prepared to battle two constructs with hardness 8. Worse yet, they had found both of the rings that prevent the statues from animating unless attacked, so the battle - which nearly killed two of the party - was completely unnecessary, though they don't know that. They found out that fighting in 2 feet of water is pretty nasty because it's difficult to escape quickly, and falling unconscious = quick death.

Keep up the good work! There are people out there getting good use out of it! :)
