Lashan 01-12-04, 10:58 PM	Everything started with the old Pool's of Radiance computer game (which was later put into a module called Ruins of Adventure ). There were many legends of the Pool of Radiance. It was kinda like a fairy tail. Many stories abound by it as being a good thing or a bad thing. Sometimes a fool would find it and end up becoming rich, have a great wife, and become king. Othertimes, a person would get greedy and the magic of the Pool would destroy them. Many things happened to those that bathed in the golden Pool of Radiance. No one was sure if it was a real thing or just a myth or legend. What the Pool was really about deals with an underling of Bane. When Bane first became a god, he went around the universe and challenged other divine beings in combat. If he defeated them, he would subjegate that being as a servant. That is one way how he became the Tyrannt. One of these beings was Tyrantherax, the Burning One (or spelled close to that). Tyrantherax was an evil deity who serves Bane. He would use various gates to try to enter the Prime Material Plane. Tyrantherax was not able to directly enter the world, but was able to posses beings who he managed to trick into the gate. The gates were always golden Pools of Radiance. Those that bathed in the pool became puppets for the Burning One. The Burning One would cause chaos and havoc until he was once again banished to the Outer Planes. I am not as familiar with the other titles that came after the original, but I always liked the plot of the original. Also, there were quite a few other powerful beings under Bane that could be made into other adventure plots.
Kuje31 01-12-04, 11:12 PM	Hmmm the Pools are pure concentration of magic from the Weave. They are places where the Weave has collected. They are an exposed nerve of the body of the Weave. They are not gateways that can be used to get the the Planes or other places. At least according to Pool of Radiance:Attack on Myth Drannor, which has a 2 page write up on the Pools. I always pretty much used them and the Moonwells on the Moonshae's hand and hand.
Lashan 01-12-04, 11:46 PM	In the first Pools of Radiance, they are a gateway used by the servant of Bane to posses beings on the Prime Material Plane. You can't go through them to get to other planes. At least, that is what the first module said. I think I like that version better, but that is my humble opinion.
Wooly Rupert 01-13-04, 12:08 AM	All of my knowledge of the Pools comes from the novels. And after reading the first two, I've never been brave enough to attempt the third.

Hmmm even Ruins of Adventure says the pool in Phlan leads to one of the darker planes. Page 5 of Ruins of Adventure, "What it did do was allow Tyranthraxus to possess Srossar, for the Pool of Radiance was a portal to one of the darker planes (which one is currently unknown.) Where does the info about Bane come from? I admit it's been a long time since I read the novels so that might be where it's from. But I don't see any mention about it in Ruins of Adventure, Curse of the Azure Bonds module, or Villian's Lorebook.....

Alac Luin 01-13-04, 06:58 PM	OK, just speculation and fuzzy memory on my part. Each pool has different magical properties, some may or may not have transportative abilities. All pools are conected through the weave, the one in Phlan has life force draining abilities (which can be seen in the neat cinamatics at the start of the Myth Drannor comp game) At this time I forgot what my point was *scrach head*

If you are able to find it, there are books that talk about the ones that were defeated by Bane and mention 'the Burning One'. I am running by memory here, but I am pretty sure that is where it is mentioned.

These too fell down and became servants of the great lord Bane." Doesn't really say defeated, I guess you could read it that way but its a stretch.....

It was only with the power of the pool was he able to do this. EDIT: I origanally stated gold dragon

They were: Maram of the Great Spear Haask, Voice of Hargut Tyranthraxus, the Flamed One Borem of the Lake of Boiling Mude Camnod the Unseen Ulimately, Bane's generals were each defeated, though Tyranthraxus was able to live on through the powers of the Pool of Radiance. It is unclear whether or not Bane's generals were immensly powerful mortals or demigods in their own right.

"These too fell down and became servants of the great lord Bane." They bent their knees, at least. Perhaps it wasn't a physical fight, but they were defeated by Bane.

Well I suppose they have now. Its on F&P p. 169 clear as day. I'd point out however, though F&P finally confirms that Borem was one of the Seven Lost Gods, it curiously still doesn't confirm that it was Borem that was slain by Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul.

Your right its doesn't say who killed Borem but with the supplied info in this thread, the words on that menhir, and the two artifacts it isn't that much of a stretch to figure out who the "we three." are. :) And cwslyclgh we have to stop posting the same things. :)
