| Bayushi Tai08-19-03, 08:38 PM | Think Mononoke fits better in white Wolfs - Werewolf setting then it ever could in a d20 setting, - just a thought |
| Kindjal08-19-03, 08:50 PM | [QUOTE]Originally posted by Klyden For your viewing pleasure, San Mononoke, Princess of the Wolves The correct suffix is -hime Mononoke-hime is the translate of Princess Mononoke -san is the suffix for a man, it means "Sir" and -hime is like "Lady" or "Princess" :) |
| Kaeltryn08-19-03, 10:01 PM | Well, actually, if you have watched Princess Mononoke, she is referred to as both Princess Mononoke, by the villagers, and San, as a personal name used by the protaganist, so that is why it is San. Just to clear that up, although you may be right |
| Herr Doktor08-19-03, 10:11 PM | I don't remember her using a crossbow... but she did have that neat little knife. Also... the clothing she wore wasn't very armory, so perhaps scrap the armor for some bracers of Dex or something of that sort. Not bad, but I think it could be better done. |
| Aurotuli08-19-03, 10:14 PM | Mononoke: 'Vengeful Spirit' Hime: 'Princess' 'Mononoke Hime' is the name given her by the people of the village., because they think of her as a vengeful spirit of the forest. 'San' is the name she uses for herself. Just helping to clear things up a bit. :) |
| Klyden08-19-03, 10:41 PM | Did I get the 3.5 Edition Rules right on her? Can anyone check the skills or the number of Feats? Is my stat block of her 3.5 Correct? Please give me opinions okay? Thanks! :D |
| Kaeltryn08-20-03, 01:02 AM | Whatever, I watched it at 11 am in the morning...Although, I hadn't slept in 24 hours, so I was tired. I didn't really listen all that much:twitch:  whatever |
| Masakado08-20-03, 10:10 AM | I like Mononoke-hime as much as the next person, but shouldn't this thread be in the d20 Fantasy Thinktank? Just sayin' is all. San did not use a crossbow , but other than that, her stats look fine. Not sure if I'd make her 9th level. Ashitaka took her & Lady Eboshi out with one punch per gal, during their catfight. Ashitaka obviously has some Peerless Archer in him: his arrow crits take your head clean off of your shoulders. ;) |
| Klyden08-20-03, 05:50 PM | His criticals were due to his curse of course...which would probably manifest itself in a Stat block as a Feat of some sort...I guess... |
| Masakado08-20-03, 06:09 PM | Originally posted by Klyden His criticals were due to his curse of course... Perhaps not. After all Ashitaka did bring down Nagu without benefit of a curse. If you can call a curse a "benefit." ;) Arguments surrouding whether or not Lady Eboshi's bullet did some of the Prince's work for him not withstanding, I think that Ashitaka was that superb an archer even before he got the demon wound. IMHO, naturally. |
| Desies08-20-03, 06:43 PM | I don't care if his bow skill is due to the curse. I seem to remeber him shooting a guy with a katana in the arm and having both of his arms ripped off and pinned to a tree. I think that he had some previous skill! |
| IateTheWurm08-20-03, 06:54 PM | ahhh...princess mononoke, one of my favorite movies.... originally from desies I don't care if his bow skill is due to the curse. I seem to remeber him shooting a guy with a katana in the arm and having both of his arms ripped off and pinned to a tree. I think that he had some previous skill! he did this cuz of his curse (the thing on his arm) i strongly believe he couldnt have done that without the curse. I must agree he is still handy with a bow, killed the wierd boar tentacle thing in the beginigng of the movie. My favorite character and would like the stats, his mount. ( its that weird llama with horns or something) |
| Klyden08-20-03, 07:23 PM | It's a riding Elk...I think... |
| Klyden08-20-03, 07:24 PM | I wonder if the Emishi people actually did exist at one point in Japan's history? |
| Herr Doktor08-20-03, 08:05 PM | I agree, this thread is badly misplaced. It should be moved elsewhere. This would be my take on Mononoke-hime: Mononoke-hime: female human Brb1/Mnk1/Rgr7; CR 9; HD 1d12+2 plus 8d8+16; 62 hp; Init +4; Spd 40 ft.; AC 20 (Dex +4, Wis +3, amulet +3); Base Atk +8/Grp +9; Atk +10 melee (1d6+2, 19-20/x3 crit, spear), +9 melee (1d4+1, 19-20/x2, dagger); Full Atk +10/+4 melee (1d6+2, 19-20/x3 crit, spear), +9/+3 melee (1d4+1, 19-20/x2, dagger); SQ Fast movement, illiteracy, rage 1/day, unarmed strike, flurry of blows, favored enemy (human +2), track, wild empathy, combat style (two-weapon fighting), endurance, animal companion (dire wolf [off of alternative list]), improved combat style (improved two weapon fighting), woodland stride; AL LN; SV Fort +11, Ref +11, Will +7; Str 12, Dex 18, Con 14, Int 9, Wis 16, Cha 10. Skills and Feats: Handle Animal +11, Hide +4, Jump +11, Listen +2, Move Silently +3, Ride +11, Spot +2, Survival +11, Tumble +4; Improved Grapple, Alertness, Mounted Combat, Ride-by Attack, Spirited Charge. Possessions: +1 keen spear, amulet of natural armor +3, earring of improved jumping, gemstone dagger. |
| Herr Doktor08-20-03, 09:02 PM | Here's an idea to explain Ashitaka's super powers. I've never made a template before, and this is nowhere near complete. I don't plan on completing it either. Curse of Hatred Template "Curse of Hatred" is an acquired template that can be added to any humanoid of monsterous humanoid creature (refered to hereafter as the base creature). The base creature with the curse of hatred uses all the base creature's statistics and special abilities except as noted here. Special Attacks: Burning Rage (Su): Cursed creatures can channel the hatred they've been scarred with at will. This ability grants the cursed creature incredible strength (+10) and horrifying combat capabilities. Any piercing or slashing weapon wielded by a cursed creature act as if they had the keen and vorpal weapon enchantments. Bludgeoning weapons are treated as if they had the wielder had the Improved Critical feat for the weapon and as if it we're a brilliant energy weapon crushing through and destroying any armor barring it's path. Burning rage lasts for 1 minute with each use and requires a Fort save DC 35 or the cursed creature loses 1 permament point of Con per use. The only way a cursed creature can remove the curse is by discovering the cause of the hatred that gave birth to it. When this cause has been discovered and dealt with the base creature returns to normal and all Con damage dealt by the burning rage is restored to them. |
| Ryltar Swordsong08-20-03, 09:29 PM | I always though that Ashitaka's feats with his bow were due to his skill and the special arrows he had. And San (Mononoke) had a dagger, too. |
| Herr Doktor08-20-03, 09:33 PM | Before the curse he was a good shot, and excellent archer (I'd say he's a fighter with lots of archery feats and mounted combat feats) but his attacks don't do the massive damage until after he recieves the curse. The blows that decapitate and mame in otherways seem to follow the strange gurgling ripple that passes through his arm before he fires... which I'd assume has something to do with the curse. |
| Masakado08-20-03, 09:33 PM | Originally posted by Klyden I wonder if the Emishi people actually did exist at one point in Japan's history? The Emishi are supposed to be actually a tribe of the Ainu, Japan's indigenous culture. And yes, faithful Yakkul is an elk. And I think that pure barbarian levels and a chaotic good or neutral good alignment suit San better than anything else. After all, she was raised by wolves (deific wolves, yes) and has a open disdain for organized society. Actually, I think her grudging benevolence came as a result of hanging around good ol', squeaky clean Ashitaka, so she may have started off as Chaotic Neutral. She doesn't seem to have the formal training of a monk, and her style of combat is unpolished and feral to say the least. |
| Klyden08-24-03, 06:28 PM | Cool Feat Herr Doktor! |

I go with Herr Doktor on that, I expected to hit the man but not to sever his hands off. You can see he is very surprised when this happens and his hand was bulging just before he fires the shot. |
