Okay heres the deal,
We have a large party and most of the bases are covered, we have 2 heavy hitting fighters, a very adaptable ranger, a sneaky thief, a shady wizard, and a wizard that seems to be a little side tracked and hasn't the spell power and finds himself to be "useless" in most situations. Those are our main players, oh one of the fighters has a cleric for a co-hort. On the occasion we have another fighter, and a clerical co-hort join in.
Now the problem is that the characters are quickly gaining strength and will soon be epic levels. The characters differ so much in alignment and idealology that it seems the game might hit a restart, though for the most part people would like to continue the game. An idea that was mentioned was the planes, any ideas on what could be an easy transition or a way to keep them together?

Some of the best games I have ever had were ones where the party broke up and went after one another. The only problem for the DM is that it takes alot of time. You could peel off some of the Chars and make them NPCs, and let those people set up new chars more in line with the overall alignment of the group. Most people will go for this just cause chars made from scratch at level 20 with 760,000 gp in magic items, are generally more min-maxxed. And the you don't lose money on retconning your +2 to +4 to +6 stuff.

Then use the former chars that are now NPCs as the main DM run enemies of the new party, with some help i.e. 'how did he become the chosen of such and such god"

Also like I guess you are already thinking the planes is a good option. Big extraplanar threats that threaten the fabric of existence in Faerun as it is currently known would unite good and evil in resistance to it. What are your chars alignments?? You know I was looking things over and Cyric really kind of likes the status quo in a strange way, i.e. strife and disorder but is against war because it supports Tempus, kind of odd huh....

so your problem is that they're to diverse? Or is it that they're gaining power & you can't think of a reason to justify the PC's staying together as an adventuring group?

As for the alignments we have 4 NG, 2 LG, 1 TN, 1 CG, and 1 NE. Although the NE hasn't been found out and is on the lighter side of evil. The problem arrises from the evil is opposite the 4 NG characters, but works well with them. One of the NG is going to kill the TN because he is a chosen of his god, and that character is sworn to eraticate all of that faith. The two LG's and CG are along for the ride and the other NG is off in lala land.

An easy reason for a party to stay together are easy, A) comraderie(sp) B)Gold, and the benefits, because if theve's survived as a party through nasties, then theres a good chance they know how to work as a team.. and if for no other reason, just to continue the game

My only problem with Epic in the realms, is because the realms has such a rich background and flavor, i don't like any of the PC's to be as powered as the major NPC's, because then they start messing such up big time.. Like most epic games, things get out of hand and ridicoulous very quickly, i would hate for something like this to happen in the realms.. :D
