I've done some searching for previous threads on the topic, but I can't find the summations others have made. What are the problems you see with that trilogy? What did you enjoy about it?

-I'll just mention the Tree of Souls, and the color of Queen Amlauril's hair, and call it a day.

Grand History of the Realms addresses the Tree of Souls issue by explaining the apparent contradiction between the Final Gate and Elves of Evermeet. Hopefully, the way in which we did it opens up some new plot hooks as a result.

-I've spoken with both Brian and George, and if some of the things they have said are what is going to be in AGHotR (and I believe that they will be) concerning this issue, I am still not satisfied. But, not that it really matters, but I'm just sayin'.

I did the final twist on this story in GH, so please wait for that and then give your verdict.

Just saying that discussing this topic here isn't the best idea, because it is likely go against the forum rules about discussing how novels are written and criticism of authors. It's shaky ground.

The reason I ask is that people state that they have "well-known" problems with it which aren't well known to me. Now, it meshed nicely with some ideas I was going to do, anyway, so it was easy to base a campaign with that as a starting point, but I was wondering what people's objections were.

You can find my objections to the book at Candlekeep.com. :) Be warned, though, some of my comments are pretty snarky and probably more mean than comments I would write now (maybe).

I will state that the problems I had with the book didn't only have to do with lore and setting changes, but also simply the way the books were written.

That would explain why I couldn't find them with a search here. Thanks, Rinoalyrna.

We were recently hoping to make a campaign with an epic feel and we thought that the Last Mythal would offer a ready made narrative for such a campaign. Due to time limitations I was only able to read the third part of the trilogy so my view is probably incomplete.

I do not recall noticing any problems with it, in terms of lore. We picked it up because both Myth Drannor and the concept of the Fey'ri seemed very interesting.

Perhaps the devils were a bit too easily defeated and I expected a lot of action involving phaerimm, especially since the latter were freed from beneath Anauroch but do not quote me on the last part as I am not certain about the chronology of events.

If you are looking for a critique of writing style, I cannot help as the fantasy genre is largely unknown to me.

I can only only advise to take things offered on these boards with a pinch of salt because there are many that seem to see Elminsters and Drizzts popping up everywhere and on top of that, these fictional novel characters are oppressing their games too! And that's from someone that rarely visits these boards.

The fact that the company chose to ban discussion of its own products on its own forums (why did they not ban the users?) says it all I think.

The majority of problems I have with the trilogy (from what I know) are largely thematic issues and (admittedly) minor mistakes in lore (aside from the Tree of Souls bit).

Now THATS funny. Even you're looking forward to GHotR. :DIndeed! My submission ended at 1375 DR. Anything in the GHotR beyond that year will be new to me. Eric Boyd and Chris Perkins told me at Gen Con I'm in for a big surprise. A good surprise I hope. :ayyyy!:

now now. I thought the book was a relatively good yarn despite some of the perceived Realmsian probs

Well, obviously your opinion isn't going to change Rino's. I've personally witnessed her immense disappointment in the books. ;)

The trilogy has some opponents who are just as bit as vicious as the Anti-Chosen/Elminster/Mystra crowd - we just tend to be a little more informed regarding canon. And grammar.

-Actually, I hear that 4e is going to contain a retcon that changes that. According to what I heard, the 4e version of the events is that the Dwarven Crusade from Everdeep is going to reestablish Myth Drannor. They even plant the Tree of Spirits (Get it? :D)Funny thing, those retcons...:D

because the Halflings ate them all up. :D

[Wild baseless 4E rumor] Gnomes are being replaced by Leprechauns because they have more innate recognition - the Leprechaun movies, Lucky Charms, Notre Dame mascot. I mean when was the last time a gnome appeared anywhere, the Travelocity commercials were the best gig they've gotten since they took up gardening as a species.

Indeed.:) If other people like the books, that's wonderful. But I read them...and didn't care for them. My opinion has been formed and will not change.

And that's coming from someone who does like Elminster, the Chosen, Mystra and the Weave, so I'm not one of those people who complains about those things.
