03-17-04, 03:25 PM How do you pronounce Drannor as in Myth Drannor? Also, I heard from some crazy source that lich was pronounced as like or leak or something crazy like that. It's just lich like rich isn't it?

03-17-04, 03:36 PM Well we're on it, what about "myth" in myth drannor. Is it meeth(like Cormyr), or mith(like myst).

03-17-04, 03:41 PM In the Pool of Radiance game that takes place inside Myth Drannor, Elminster pronounces Myth as 'mith', and Drannor as 'dran-or', with dran rhyming with 'ran'. I've also heard Drannor pronounced more flowing-ish, like 'dranner'. Either of those ways would work I suppose. Hope this helped...

I used to go with "dran-or" as my pronunciation, but then, after seing the word "Drannan" (as in, something of Myth Drannan origin), I changed and started pronouncing it "dranner"

- Player1 & 2 (German girls)
- Player2 (German guy)
- Player3 (English guy)

We play with the English books but roleplay in German.

Just imagine the mess with the accents when we say things like "Magic Missile"...

So I think I will leave the discussion about "Myth Drannor" to the experts and not even ask about how to pronounce "Lolth" or "Ilmater"....

I have found that many D&D names are pronounced like it would be in french.
As far as Myth Drannor goes, I agree with the "mith dran-or" one.
EDIT: and I think that Lich sould be pronounced "Leesh" as opposed to "Litch"

A good idea would be to put the phonetics (don't quite know how to spell that word in english) in ( ) next to the word, just like in dictionnaries, maybe in an online index or something, just a thought anyway.

And what about the aforementionned Lolth (and Illmater) ?, I can't find the right pronounciation either.

And as a french-quebec joke might: Chamoni or Chamonix, and Astéri or Astérix?

Anyhow, interesting subject.

Didn't actually see this until I made my last post.

There is also a Realms tendency to stress different sylables (mostly elvish) depending on what you are talking about.
DRAN-nor might be the city proper and dran-NOR might be the city land and enviorns.

03-20-04, 05:12 PM From what I've head Ed say on the subject (I think in the Mortality.net show), the general rule for Realms pronunciation is that there are no silent letters and each letter is pronounced. This is rather vague, I know, but its what I use to figure out how to pronounce most things.

Tuigan, for example: Too-ee-gan; if said fast becomes something like Twee-gan.

As for lich... I've always pronounced it Litch, like itch. Cunning: you make an interesting point, but the dictionary you linked had two pronunciations. And in any case, "li>k" (web formatting is poor for linguistics... read it as L--I (circumflex accent)--K) is pronounced Lick, not leak.

paladin = Pa-lad-in
tarrasque= tair-es-Q

they are odd!! lol

to me....

lich=litch
paladin=pal-a-din
tarrasque = tar-rask

or maybe I am!! :p
