I am a total newb to forgotton realms except where Drizzt has been, is there maybe a city or place in Faerun that has a Oriental(sp) setting?

thanks

Kara-tur, which is a far continent to the east but there is a long road/trail/etc/, called The Golden Way, that connects that continent all the way to Waterdeep and so it runs from Kara-tur, through the Horde lands, which is another smaller continent, and then all the way through Faerun, the main continent, and up to Waterdeep to the northwest.

just to add a bit more there...the lands right in the southern middle where the orient meets arabia is really cool to use too! between zakhara and kara-tur...lots of wrecked kingdoms and such..can spend years in that place.

If you need any more info theres a chapter in the FRCS (i think) called Beyond Faerun which details kara tur and the indian place too

I wouldn't say that it detailed the areas. Just mentioned in brief.

Of if you have a plastic (credit card) you could order the Kara-Tur electronic PDF document like RPGNow.com. It's a scan of the original boxed set material published during the 1e Era.

OA5, Mad Monkey vs. the Dragon Claws
OA6, Ronin Challenge
OA7, Test of the Samurai
The Horde

Are available as free downloads at this LINK (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads)

The Horde deals with the area between Faerun and Kara-Tur, an area that is pretty much Mongolia for the most part. The other 3 are adventures/modules.

I think those 3 modules (strom riders, the black courser, and ...damn forgot) by Troy Denning, are the best adventures ever by TSR.

If your looking for Asia in the Realms you have several options:

1. Shou-Lung (northern china)
2. Tu-Lung (southern china)
3. Wa/Kozakura (japan)
4. Koryo (korea)
5. Tabot (tibet)
6. Ra-Khati (nepal)
7. Bawa (taiwan)
8. Malatra (laos, vietman, malaysia)
9. Var the Golden/Durpar/Sempadan Forest (India)
10. Afyal (sri-lanka)
11. Raumvira (russia)
12. Horse Plains (mongolia)

Hope that helps.
