Question about Pyromancers [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-09-04, 10:56 PM I've read through 2nd edition material from the Forgotten Realms and come across the mentioning of a pyromancer living in Halruaa, who is called Daltim Flamefist. So I've been wondering:

What is really a pyromancer in the Forgotten Realms?

Are they Evokers that just like using fire spells?
Or are they more like the Pyromancer concept mentioned in AEG's "The Quintessential Wizard? (This concept states that they specialize in spells with the fire descriptor and choose one prohibited school)

I appreciate your input.

This is what I would go with. :)..... And Mongoose is the one who puts out the Quin series of books. :)

No problem. I just have to many RPG books and I have them written up in Word to keep track. :)

But I would go with what is in the Mongoose book.

If you're not familiar with the elemental mages from 2nd edition, it was something intro'ed in Tome of Magic, which also gave us the Wild Mages.

The elementalist mages were like specialists, but focused on one of the four elements. They gained an extra spell per level, but it had to be from their element. They had a bonus to learn spells of their element, less of a bonus for learning spells of other elements, and they could not at all learn spells from tge element opposite theirs. It was also more difficult for them to learn non-elemental spells.

There's more to it, but that's enough to give an idea of what they were about.

03-11-04, 12:08 AM Re-stat him as a Evoker or Sorcerer / Elemental Savant ( Fire ), maybe cap off the build with Arcane Devotee of Kossuth. Its always been my understanding that Fire Savants are basically the 3rd edition replacement for fire elementalists / pyromancers.

03-11-04, 06:23 PM The only problem with that thought is that you have to be associated with a god. What if you have a pyromancer wizard who doesn't want any church associations? I say even just a simple evoker with fire tendancies would work, though I do like much of Mongoose Publishing's work.
