Do you ever let your PCs take the step in to Epic levels during the course of a normal campaign? Or do you wait for everyone to reach 20th Level and then create Epic problems for them all to tackle together?

i let them all gain epic levels when they do something special.. i dont do it "you gain enough for 21st level and your automatically epic". most of my players have to figure out what that thing is by themselves. so most of my players reach epic at different times.

In the course of the current campaign I am DMing. If/when the party accomplishes the quest they are on they will have enough xp to reach level 21 AND they will have done something so spectacular they will be considered EPIC!

After the party reaches epic level I have 2 adventures planned for them and they will be semi retired. If the players have an idea for an adventure then I will DM it, but otherwise they will be doing their non adventuring stuff.

When we start the next party, the old party will be the iconic high level characters that they might encounter instead of Elminster and the other book NPC's.
