01-15-06, 10:36 PM I recently purchased The Underdark, and I have been wondering: How do you tell which areas are Upperdark, MiddleDark, and Lowerdark (I need to know because all three levels have different encounters)

help would be appreciated,

For areas given entries in that chapter, it's at the very beginning of their entry. There are some areas not listed there but listed in Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark, which includes the same information. And finally, if it's not in either of those sources, make it up!

01-16-06, 03:06 AM I dont have the book with me right now but as far as I recall the legend in the bottom left corner of the map states what each symbol means and where it is located, also on each description of a area in the geography it states wheter it is a upper, middle or lowerdark site.

01-20-06, 03:03 PM The areas in between the sites apply for upperdark, middledark and lowerdark. It is not a plain open area, but passages and tunnels winding up and sloping down, all up to your making. Three-dimensional, forget the area-aspect, unless you can traverse stone like air.
Vaults and Chasms may even connect the upperdark straight to the lowerdark. The final saying about the level of underdark has, as always, the DM.
For instance, you can have 5 parallel tunnels, one above the other, the uppermost in the upperdark, the lowest in the lowerdark, yet none in the middledark! ...?
