So, i have 2 ask 4 2 new novels and 4 2 old ones.

What is your opinion about the Rage of Dragons of Richard Lee Byers and The Watercourse trilogy by Philip Athans?

I enjoyed the Year of Rogue Dragon books. I like RLB's dialogue and I enjoyed the characters, even though people have rightly pointed out that most of the protagonists are "too exotic" (that is, they seem to be odd for the sake of being odd). The novels also have been criticized for having a "Let's showcase a bunch of obscure dragon-creatures from the recent and/or tie-in sourcebooks that feature dragons" vibe to them. Oh well.

I found the Watercourse novels to be very annoying and preachy. They are basically Ayn Rand's Fountainhead set in the Realms, with all major characters and plot points lifted right from Rand's novel.

Also i would like 2 know what do u think about the new trilogy Haunted Lands and about the Empyrean Odyssey? Are they any good?Any info would be welcome thx:)

Only the first Empyrean novel is out--I liked it. Only two Haunted Lands books are out, and I've only read the first one so far. Again, I liked it, but both series have "Spellplague" written all over them, and I'm not fond of the Spellplague concept.

-The Year of Rogue Dragon novels, overall, were good, but the premise behind things (you'll find out when you read them) doesn't fit into the setting very well, without hammering certain elements into place.

Year of Rogue Dragons books, I like the exoticness, some really interesting characters, like the smoke dragon, tough I feel the character developement of others isn't that great, I'd like to know more about the faerie dragon, the avariel bladesinger has a strange background, main character, the half-golem, I know that he's supposed to be dumb, but still some personality would be better.

Watercourse trilogy has some interesting and unique ideas, less adventuring, tough large parts of it are annoying to the reader.

Empyrean Odyssey has two storylines, one about Kaanyr Vhok is relatively boring, the other about Allisza is very good. Planar FR novels are quite rare, can't wait for the new one. Epic level just like the Year of Rogue Dragons.

-Are you sure you want me to spoil things for you? What I am about to mention concerns very pivotal plot elements...

I didn't find him (Dorn) to be "dumb" so much as repetitively cynical and mopey in the final book.

-Here it is:

-The fact that the Elves created the Dracorage, via a massive, planet-wide Mythal is a rather large continuity gaffe. Sure, elements have been retconned to make it more feasible, but when you apply thought and logic, things don't make sense anymore. This is why I tell people who are discussing it to not bother (ie, Derren), because the results are not going to be fairly indicative of anything. The Elves already had Dragonriders at this point. A massive, planet-wide Mythal would have effected these Dragons as well (though, there is that 'Delay Dracorage' spell). It also would have impacted the non-evil Draconic Barons who existed. Derren argues that this is an evil act, since Elves are CG, and this canon really adds to this fact. Now, add to this fact that, somehow, Elves have completely forgotten about the fact that they created the Dracorage Mythal- even though, as evidenced by Danillo accessing all of those ancient records to write his book for Arilyn, there are fairly well kept records that go back even further. When I asked, Mr. Byers said that the creation of the Dracorage Mythal was very much like the Manhattan Project- a huge secret. How, might I ask, does an Elf not sense that he/she is living within a massive, planet-wide Mythal? Or that, say, Amlauril, Chosen of the Seldarine, is unaware of this fact? I could go on, but I'm sure everone gets the gist of what I am saying...

-And that's that. :)
