Twilight Herald 02-28-04, 09:11 PM	Just hoping someone can clear this up for me : Is it permissable to initiate a thread to discuss the Game Mechanics / D&D rules implications of a particular event referenced in a novel, if the discussion is strictly limited to that event or sequence of events, and the subject header makes it clear that the thread is intended to only directly discuss the gaming / mechanics implications? an example would be " What spell or method of spellcasting, ie circle magic, epic spellcasting, etc, do people think "X" mages were employing when they created "X" in "X" novel? Could they have actually accomplished "X" effect within the rules?" That sort of thing is what I'd like to get a clarification on, if someone could hel me out.
WizO_BigSister 02-29-04, 09:27 AM	I am assuming you have read the rules about novels posted here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=185204) The new rules only allow you to use the novels as a reference in a wider discussion of an issue. You are not allowed to focus entirely on the contents of a novel or group of novels. This means the topic you presented is not allowed. As well as being against these rules your topic would present other problems * We have been officially informed by various writers and designers that the novels were never meant to reflect game mechanics, especially as they will be read through a few changes of rules. Therefore a discussion about game mechanics as applied to the novels is not going to be useful or productive * There was a lot of rather emotional debate about whether the novels should reflect game mechanics, and this was a significant factor in the decision to close the novels forums. Reopening the debate will not be at all helpful to those trying to get the forums restored Therefore I would have to say this topic will not be allowed If you or anyone else has other questions about clarifications of the rules, it is better to email me or use the private message system.
