| Exploit04-11-07, 04:44 PM | My Red Wizard is considering undergoing a racial conversion quest (DMG II) in which he would go from a 17th level wizard to a 1st level Paragon Elan. Elan's being evolved humans anyways, this seems to make perfect sense. My idea is that my wizard would be the first Elan on Faerun and that he would actively seek to convert Mulans into Elans (fitting in with the Red Wizard racism/elitism motif). Only my character would be a Paragon Elan of course the rest of the Mulans would become normal Elans. Anyone know of any references to Elans currently in the Realms? Any ideas on canon references as to a site, individual or quest that might be able to accomplish such a feat. (Currently I'm considering using a Wish, as per the Savage Species rules but that seems rather anti-climatic.) |

How about a small campaign to discover some sort of ancient magical rite? An epic spell for instance. Or better, make a quest about locating some old imaskari magical rite, on the grounds which the PC will then develop his own epic spell for this specific purpose. The spell choice would seem better than a location quest since, if the idea to turn other red wizards into elans too, it would be easier to accomplish. A question though, why Elans specifically? Aren't Elans a psionic race? |
| Exploit04-12-07, 12:05 PM | Yes Elans are a psionic race. All Elans are former humans who have undergone a ritual to become an Elan. The ritual strips them of all their former levels, although they still remeber their past, and they are recreated as new first level characters. Only humans can undergo this ritual and the Elans tend to pick only humans that meet their personal aesthetic tastes (specific hair colors, eye colors etc). Elans age but do not ide of old age. Why Elans? Well from a player perspective, I think a Paragon Elan represents a cool character concept, as our campaign slowly moves into epic levels. From a character perspective, Red Wizards are portrayed as racial purists, who only allow fellow Mulans within their ranks. Given the Red Wizards penchant for seeking personal advantages over one another, becoming an Elan seems like a natural fit for a Red Wizard to pursue immortality and to achieve a secret edge over his peers. Amongst other things, Paragon creatures are generally either the first instance of a creature or else the final evolution of a type of creature. Since there are no Elans in the Realms, I'm looking to become both. Having evolved the Mulan race to its pinnacle of achievement, Elan, while personally becoming the first instance of the new Elan race a Paragon Elan. I will then advance as a wizard/psion/cerebremancer. Even with the +15 ECL adjustment for the Paragon template this is much better for going into epic levels than my current Red Wizard class which has prohibited the schools of Transmutation, Evocation, Abjuration and Conjuration! |
