| Another Gnome06-30-03, 10:31 AM | The base minimum costs for raising the dead as per the standard PH formula: Raise dead = 450 gp + 500 gp diamond = 950 gp Resurrection = 910 gp + 500 gp diamond = 1410 gp True Resurrection = 1,530 gp + 5,000 gp diamond = 6,130 gp In most cases, however, it's not important to know how much it costs but why should the cleric raising a dead person bother doing so in the first place. In general, assume that someone is only raised by a cleric of the same faith, or that of an allied faith (if you can come up with a good reason). Clerics who don't care about the faith of the dead person will not disturb their god about the matter either, and in case of an opposed faith, it's no good to even ask. Individual faiths may have exceptions to the general guidelines, a cleric of Chauntea for example may be reluctant to raise anyone because the goddess sees death as part of the natural way of things, whereas a cleric of Kelemvor (despite the similarities in the wording of his dogma with Chauntea) might be willing to raise practically anyone without even asking what faith the deceased is, as long as it's clear that the death was untimely and thus opposed to what the faith believes in (but even in such a case, a compensation should be expected - for gameplay reasons if nothing else). * * * The above is more or less based on what it says in FRCS, and works well enough for me. Another approach could be that instead of clerics flat-out refusing to raise a member of a different faith, they simply charge more (say, 10% more for someone of allied faith, 20% more for someone of an indifferent faith, and 100% more if there's rivalry or grudges between the faits but no open war. Actual enemies will never get raised under any circumstances). At any rate, as long as there are instant death effects, I don't see anything wrong with getting back to life with similar ease (and it really isn't easy at all if the religious discrimination is used). Obviously, adventuring clerics tend to have less strict limitations, especially with regard to raising their comrades. |
