if you read my other posts my players are in the silver marches goin to a forest, then to silverymoon then into the dreaded CotSQ module...

one of the PC's ia a drow ranger of mezoberenzen, of lolth

the plot of the story is that Lolth stops giving spells to her clerics.. does this mean just the clerics or all divine spellcasters who worship lolth.. i dont want to torment this PC if i dont have to

lolth I don't think can grant ranger spells anyway due to her not being a nature deity..

although I suppose one could argue that she could apply due to spiders being in her portfolio

Rangers are no longer a "nature" class per say anymore. They more like Divine Champions in a way. The god that they pick as their Patron is the one that grans their spells even if they are of an Alignment that the god doesn't grant cleric spells to.
So yes, you could have that really strange LE Ranger of Tyr who is the "Punisher" :D hunting down the bad guys. Not likely, but it could happen.

For Lolth, I would allow a Ranger that was non-good and non-lawful to get spells. Unless they have a really good backstory.

Clerics, Druids, Paladins, and Rangers are all Divine Casters. A Divine PrC is the Blackguard. Basically any class that has a required Patron God, or has spells that are defined as Divine in nature. So an Arcane Devotee could lose their special abilities from the PrC if something to their god, depending on the DM, even though they are an Arcane Caster, but they do have a Patron God requirement.

Bards, Sorcerers, and Wizards are all Arcane Casters. Any PrC or class that has spells that is defined as Arcane in nature.

So anything that would affect a pool of one, should affect the pool of all the others. And yes I have seen a Druid of Lolth (NE) that had an affinity with Spiders and became a Vermin Keeper.

PGtF says all Spells, spell like abilites and supernatural abilities granted by lolth are gone.
So no spells for him (or her). But lucky for the ranger, all it's class abilities are Ex, so no loss there, but be aware of PrC, they might have some SU or SA.

When the PC find out that he is no longer gaining spells he could just change his deity. It would make sense too since he might believe that lolth ahs abandon him and so he departs from lolth.

And if ya really want to be mean, make the PC get an Atonement to be able to get Ranger Spells from their new Patron. :smirk:

Rest assured, no half-sane drow worshipper of Lolth (who knows about other drow deities) will even think of that option. Lolth has been silent before (1358 D.R.) and this could simply be a test of loyalty. And drow do know what Lolth and her clerics do if someone shows some kind of heresy, faithlessness etc. ...

Should have happened already - a lot of Eilistraeean priestesses are former Spider Kissers - and now with Lolth gone it is only more likely that some will change, seeing Lolth's prolongued silence as proof that she abandoned her children.
