Two very general questions:

1. I am interested in reading more about Raven's Bluff. I understand that it was the location of a number of WotC organized play campaigns at some time in the last ten years. Were any novels written that use Raven's Bluff as a setting?
EDIT: As I understand it, you can name novels, but not discuss them.

2. Based on a lark, and encouraged by the DM, my cleric of Mystra is one level away from becoming a RuneCaster. Unfortunately, I don't get Runecasters; what makes them so powerful. NOTE: My DM only permits feats from the core books and the FR Campaign Settings as a rule.

NOTE: My DM only permits feats from the core books and the FR Campaign Settings as a rule. They aren't all that powerful. Runes are a lot like scrolls, but more expensive.

There are some advantages, though. A runecaster can pay extra to give them charges per day. I thought this would be particularly handy if you inscribed a rune of Magic Weapon on your scabard or breastplate. Then, any weapon you touch to it becomes magic (temporarily). It's not only a poor man's magic weapon, it is effectively a poor man's morphing weapon, since you could choose your mace or your whip or your sword or your longbow. Any ordinary, cheap weapon you touched to it (doesn't have to be masterwork) becomes magic for duration of the spell. Pretty cool, eh?

Using the Gate spell, a Rune can make for a poor man's portal (without the need for a crafting feet).

Rune's also don't have the "on your spell list" requirement to activate them. Anyone can activate them, so you can give them out to non-clerics.

They can be set to go off under certain circumstances, so they are good for traps.

I think there are probably a lot of creative uses for runes, but people don't really talk about them.

I wonder if there is a thread in the optimization boards about cool ways to use runes?

The only thing is that runes are limited to divine spells.

WVGamer - Thank you, The City of Ravens, by Richard Baker.

Gray Richardson - That was my impression of Rune magic, not terribly powerful. Also using it leaches away your XP, if I am reading it correctly. Finally, there is the DC20 craft check to confirm that your rune can hold magic, otherwise all components and XP are gone with no Rune to show for it. Thank you for the confirmation.

Old Sage - Yes, actually that was my second source for information. The first source was (of course) the brief description in the FR Campaign Settings book.

Thank you all!
