With most of the fiends wiped out or scattered and the Phaerimm that lurked there destroyed by the Shadovar. What besides the drow elves is keeping Myth Drannor from being restored?

The Wild Magic created by the Mythal would be the first thing stopping any new settlers. Unless the elves of Evermeet want to use High Magic and reclaim that Wild Magic zone, or restore the Mythal, the ruins of Myth Drannor are going to stay uninhabited.

That, and the fact that the elfs really want to be left alone and don't want to try that lets all be freinds together, in the same place thing again. + the whole army of darkness revisited thing where bad evil things would want to destroy a place of harmony etc...

BTW.. what ever *did* happen to two items from the last battle??? did they get destroyed???

Also, who right now has control of the lone (to my caculations) artblade? I think thats the only sword left not *missing* like the other two...

Madoule: I'll look in the Cormanthor sourcebook about the Artblade. Last I can remember, Josidiah Starym had it when he disappeared on a quest.

The Twisted Tower is detailed in 2e's box set, in the Shadowdale book.

When did most of the fiends get wiped out? I don't remember that happening...

Also, there are still around a dozen or so Phaerimm still there, and they are probably the most powerful of them, since they were able to survive.

That, or they were simply better at hiding. Another alternative is that they were simply overlooked.

As for the re-founding of Myth Drannor, I don't see that happening any time soon. But I don't think it impossible. 'Tis part of the reason Lathander has a temple there. And one of the duties given to his priests is to help those who have settled in the ruins (the good-aligned ones, assumably).

Here's the scenario I envision for re-founding Myth Drannor:

First, get some adventurers to settle there, and clear out and make safe a small area. They bring in others, who do the same thing. This "safe" area would slowly (years) expand outward...

Once it was big enough, bring in some non-adventurer types. Not very many, just some. You'd now have an enclave of civilization in the ruins. This would prolly be the status quo for several years.

Once it was proven to be viable, more people would start trickling in. At this point, you need to make sure that there is elven involvement -- which prolly wouldn't be an easy task.

If you could somehow negate the wild magic effects in the enclave, that would be a huge bonus...

While all this is going on, there needs to be roving teams going thru and doing their utmost to cleanse the ruins. I'd prolly have like three teams that would just concentrate on the near stuff, doing frequent patrols in this area. Other roving teams would go further into the ruins, looking for a fight...

Okay, so you've got a very small settlement on the outskirts of the city. It's safe, the immediate environ is safe, and hopefully the wild magic effects don't cause problems in the enclave. Now you've got a place that other adventures could use as a secure base of operations, and you'll prolly have lots of spellslingers wanting to hang out there, too.

So you repeat the process, maybe on the other end of town, or maybe at a place closer to the center of the city.

Once you've got enough of a safe area, the influx of people is going to grow. Eventually, the cleansing and resettling would start to increase at an exponential rate, until the city was fully (or so close to fully that it's not funny) cleansed and resettled.

Sometime while that is happening, you need to figure out how to repair the mythal. I'd say it would take another High Magic ritual, something more powerful than the original ritual was.

At best, I see this whole process taking at least a century. And that's assuming nothing interferes.

Now, that's the physical part of re-settling the city. Returning it to it former glory is a totally different story, and one I'll not tackle.

Anyway, that's what comes readily to mind. I may think further on this...

Which fiends do you mean? The phaerimm? They were wiped out by the Shadovar. However, I don't recall how the fiends of the Weeping Wars were dispersed. :(

The following

The Remaining Devils

The Nagara

The Alhoon

The Cult of the Dragon + at least one Dracolich known to live in the ruins

Several Dragons that nest within the ruins

Druth Daeran and his undead army

While I'm very sure all that could be overcome, Misyrr, it would take much more than the elves of Evermeet and Evereska are willing to give. :)

The elves are really, ATM, still in the mindset of the elven Retreat--Evermeet is the fortress home, and it's where most of the elves are staying put. I don't see them just rushing off to rebuild an already-destroyed city.

The Mythal weakened the barriers between the planes near Myth Drannor, as well... Would your campaign's elves really want to restore a place like that? ;)

It's actually the goal of a certain less-than-wise young moon elf swashbuckler PC in the campaign I'll soon be starting.

She is from Highmoon in Deepingdale and is the part-time scribe of Alum Ravenwatch, a bard (no actual bard class-levels, he's a fighter/diviner) and small-time sage of knowledge involving Myth Drannor and what lurks there now.

Just making a Gather Information check as to what it'd require. Thanks for all the replys thus far!

But no, really what happened to all them swords?

Foebane.. is it really gone when it smashed that artificat(forgot what it is called) during the last battle? Is the soldiers blade still beneath the twisted tower?

Also I do belive there is a module out (based loosly on the pc game) of the "ruins of myth drannor." and let me tell yah... man theres a bounty of undead romin bout + yeah the other stuff roamin about as well. (ive played the game and beat it, the trick is to get your hands on some bows and find the narrow part of the last battle and...... bwhahahahah im not telling. Its my secret and thats how i beat the game! bwhahahahah)

Madoule: PMed you with the info on the blades.

I can't post it here--copyright violation. :(

The Cormanthyr supplement is available on the Wizards site here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/downloads).

Thanks, madoule.

I wish they *would* turn that stuff 3.5... less conversions that I need to make. Of course, I don't mind playing 2e either. ;)

Have they posted an epic spell write-up for the creation of a mythal?
aravilar_holistacia

A Mythal doesn't consist of one spell, Karsus.

In the 2e supplement Cormanthyr: Empire of the Elves it details the ritual of the Mythal casting. I posted a link to the book a few posts up. :)

I'm a Mythalologist; my character is an Elven High Mage from 2e and he's participated in a Mythal casting (which failed due to an attack on the area by a flight of dragons).

By fiends I mean devils, demons and such. When did they get "mostly wiped out"? I don't remember reading about that...

As for the Phaerimm, I recall that a dozen died attacking the Chosen in Shadowdale, Vala and the Baelnorn killed six, and the Shadovar probably got at least a few after Vala left, but they all pulled out of there soon after, so they can't have killed them. By my estimation there are probably around 18 or so of them left in Myth Drannor.

I would imagine, with the way EHM works in 3e, that Mythals would each be their own unique epic spell, though the principal design would be similar thoughout.

Hi!

You're probably right, but I was under the impression that some of the Moon Elves from some of the neighbouring Dales were there to stay. Maybe some of them might want to band with half-elves and others friends of the fair folks to re-settle the ancient city?

It's just a theory but why not?

Also, another wild idea:

If the Star Elves were deciding to come back to Faerun for good and leave their half-destroyed half-plane, maybe they could choose to settle-in in Cormanthor? The Yuirwood seems to be already quite full and they won't necessarily be worse off in Cormanthor as they are in their besieged Suldeyir.

What do you think? Am I going too far? Did I miss something on the Star Elves making this impossible? I'd be happy to hear about your ideas.

Bocklin

PS: What does "ATM" means? Last time I heard that it was an acronym for "Automatic Teller Machine"?

It's quite possible that elves who are already out of Evermeet (or never went there during the Retreat) would resettle Cormanthor Forest, but to resettle the city would very probably take some Elven High Mages and an army of spellswords to drive off the many evils living there.

Again, the area surrounding Myth Drannor is riddled with wild magic zones and the like thanks to the Mythal. And, as far as I can recall, the Mythal at Myth Drannor required more than twenty elven mages, all of at least 15th level or higher. Mythanthor, the central caster of the Mythal, was an Elven High Mage, and along with him were many other prominent mages, including the Coronal Eltargrim Irithyl (sp?) and Elminster himself.

Unless you've got a few Elminsters and a few Elven High Mages around to try and repair the Mythal (which, IIRC, has never been attempted), you've got yourself a very nice city--a city where if you cast a spell, you've got half a chance of it backfiring and killing your whole party.

True story: Rolled a d10. Got a 3. Three = Spell backfires, gets the Maximize Spell feat. Kills the whole party. ;)

PS: ATM = at the moment :)

Evermeet Suplement is NICE. I like the Queen's Sword that lets her cast High Magic once a round for free w/ no backlash.

Just a note, Shaundakul has clergy in Myth Drannor.
They are working out of and restoring the temple "Shaundakul's Throne"
So If you are starting a Myth Drannor campain, this can be an area of intrest or help.

And though it's not shown on any map, Lathander has a temple outside the city. One of the duties of his priests there is to aid those who settle in Myth Drannor. They have an active interest in seeing the city rise again.
