So my friend's new roommate prefers to DM in the Realms. However, I'm not sure what the best method of asking him to run a game might be. I have consider politely asking, shameless groveling, bribery, threats of torture, and simply commanding him. The question is, which of these methods should I use? Which would prove most beneficial, and which would prove most entertaining? Do you have any ideas of your own? Be creative, extra points for implausibility....

Oh it is sooo simple just get a group together...
1) Just endelessly say things like,"It is so boring is anybody up maybe a FR game?..mmm...anybody good at running it?"

2) Trip him in to the DM seats...

But maybe the reallistic one is I don't know ask him? I am guesssing your friend picked as a new roommate because he runs the game....I mean what else is there to consider in picking a room mate...;)

Honestly my friend was talking to someone else about the room when he got the reply for his current roommate, finding out he smoked a pipe (a habit of mine, I used to be his roommate), and he played D&D, he immediately confirmed his current roommate before telling the guy he was talking to, "Sorry, it's been taken." So yes, it definitely played a part.

Inquire about his stance to 4e FR.
Whatever the stance, take the opposite position and challenge him to prove you wrong through play... Insist you need a full campaign before you can make up your mind on whether he is right :D

Chain him into the DM Seat and tell him that if he doesn't comply with your wishes that you will staple a DM screen to his forhead.

Why is it so difficult to just ask? Just use common courtesy and ask politely. Unless you have reason to believe he'll shoot you for looking at him, what's the worst that can happen? He'll say 'no'.

If you don't know the guy personally, introduce yourself. "Hi, I'm __________, a friend of ____________. I hear you DM in the Realms. Wanna take the reins in a game?"

-If you have a bunch of people who'd be willing to play- most importantly, your friend- simply asking him- or pawning the duty off on your friend- would probably be best.

Organize a game day, Run it in Faerun, invite said DM to the table as a Player Then do such a terrible job at it and fumbling it all around that the said DM takes pity on you by bodily throwing you out of your DM chair and sits down and say "All right, enough of that happy horse $*&^. Then sit down calmly in the now empty player seat and try to avoid smiling smuggly.

Absolutely nothing, and it's exactly what I'm going to do next time I see him. The point of this post however, is to be inventive and outrageous. Lot's of good ideas here so far. Stapling a DM screen to his forehead, challenging him regarding 4ed Realms, running a an awful FR game (The Adventures of Elminster vs. Cyric, while you get to follow along.) Actually, that last one sounds like it might be fun, which means it is something I so totally should not do. Kind of like my old Character Du Drizzle, an idea that sounds humorous to me, but is actually an awful idea.

Personally I thought he was hilarious with his Bling of Con, and perform "Freestyle."

"Oh my angst, it hurts so bad,
No one likes me, and it makes me mad."

The goal was to be bad, really, really bad. As bad as my one rank would make me. It just seemed to annoy the people around me. I don't know why.....

Okay. I didn;t pick up that you were looking for creative ways. In that case, do a strip-o-gram. You don't have to get all the way nekkid, just strip down to a chain mail bikini.

(There's a difference between being "naked" and being "nekkid". When you're "naked", you have no clothes on. When you're "nekkid", you have no clothes on and you're up to something.)

Hmm, I think the sight of my hairy white hiney accentuated in not nearly enough steel links would scare him into DMing for sure.
