10-31-07, 09:29 PM Like the title says, I was wondering about the Red Wizards take on Psionics. I've got the Unapproachable East splat and many others, however I'm not able to find even a mention of it (which I'm finding to be the case alot with psionics). I ask because I'm running a campaign near there and thinking about including psionics in the setting, so I am thinking of having one of the NPC's have Thayan roots but be psionic. Would such a person have been persecuted and in hiding, watched, or ignored? Do the Red Wizards have any interest in psionic's either to study it, or perhaps stamp it out and repress it? Would such an NPC be on the run if discovered or just tightly controlled?

11-01-07, 08:07 AM Red Wizards will have the opinion humans with the mindpowers possesed of mindflayers and rakshasa are dangerous deviants and should at best be contained in large magic asylums. Psionics could be kept secret and can prove to be an edge in politics and scheming if used as a hidden tool. Blatant psionics are too dangerous to have or have to be explained as magic from a special magic school, but that won't fool most red wizards. Actual persecution of psionic talent? I dont think so. Without a proper way of tracking psionics (i.e. having acces to psionic organisations) the effort is too big for the Thayans.

I think with all their otherwordly contact Thayan wizards do recognize and can counter certain well known psionic attacks by races such as mindflayers mindblasts, githyanki telekinesis and rakshasa shapeshifting.

That means that people with psionic powers are going to be the s__t after 1385 DR. Like what House Oblodra did during the ToT in Menzo.

As to the topic, I'd have to agree with Suin. A person with Psionics would be considered dangerous competition to the Red Wizards - something they really wouldn't stand for.

Now a secret sociey of psionic masters hidden within Thay, that find and train children with the gift, would make for an interesting campaign.

Maybe the thayans are thinkering - somes, at least... - on the nature of psychic powers VS the Gift, and maybe have found something usefull... like an union or both...

11-05-07, 03:12 PM IMO psionics would be considered the same as sorcery (outlawed) in Thay. as for the rest of the UE, there could be psions/psychic warriors in the Shou communities in Teflam. in older editions, psionics were a regular part of some outsiders; therefore, there may be some in the Great Dale. The creatures invading the yuirwood may also have creatures that are psionically based.
