I've been working on creating a set of magical items that when worn together become the Regalia of the Spider Queen.
These items would be a magic item set like those presented in the Magic Item Compendium.

I was thinking that some of the items in the set already exist and others are used commonly.
For instance, slippers of spider climbing could be one item. Eyes of the Spider from City of the Spider Queen could be another.

Coming up with the other items in the set and what bonus powers the wielder gets when all the items are collected and worn is what I would like some help with.

I'd like the Ring of Lolth from 2ed to be one of the items, but since it hasn't been update to 3rd ed, there are no stats on it.

I suppose since its the Spider Queen we're talking about here, there'd be a total of 8 items in the regalia. The ring, goggles and slippers would be three. Maybe the robe of ebonsilk from Complete Divine could be another.

I want to make finding these items a quest/race (against rival drow) for some of the characters in my campaign. The person (has to be drow) who collects them all would become highly favored by Lolth and would gain great power, both politically (amongst the drow) and tangibly.

... suggestions might be the - as yet unstatted - Menzoberra's Dagger and the spider rod (Magic of Faerūn / MIC).

The "Cloak of Arachnida" is more useful than the slippers of spider climb, and more thematically linked, as it also grants web immunity.

The Dagger of Mezoberra would work well, but do you think that it's too Menzoberranzan specific? I want these items to be craved by drow of all cities. However, who's to say that the Dagger of Menzoberra didn't pre-date her?

So, I think both these items could work and would fit in well.
The spider rod definately fits, or, could use the Rod of the Recluse instead.

The cloak of arachnia could replace the slippers of spider climbing.

So that's a total of six items so far (cloak of arachnia, ring of Lolth, Dagger of Menzoberra, spider rod/or rod of the recluse, eyes of the spider, robe of ebonsilk).

Need two more items now. The item slots open are necklace/amulet, hat/helm, boots/slippers, bracers/bracelets and one ring.

I would highly consider at least one "slotless" item. 8 slotted items is rather dampening on a PCs magical item choices if they want to wear the whole suit (eventually). You want to reward them for their dedication/perseverence/sadism (in theory) not restrict their gear choices. With that in mind I'd suggest some really good set bonuses to make up for what they lose in their versatility.

On the front of other item suggestions:
Rod of Webspinning (Underdark)
Boots of Tremorsense (Und)
Web Choker (Und)
Bracers of Murder (Drow of the Underdark)
Ring of Anticipation (DotU)
Ioun Stones (DMG/SRD)

Hmmmm...I don't think the boots of tremorsense, bracers of murder or ring of anticipation really fit the theme here. But I do like your suggestion of having some non-slotted items in the set.

Maybe some sort of new ioun stone that's carved in the shape of a spider and provides some type of bonus that doesn't overlap what the other items already do, but stays in the whole drow/spider theme. Maybe a poisonous bite? Or, perhaps a spider's hard carapace.

Hello!

Here is an item I'm still not finished with, actually it's supposed to be an artifact. I admit I was influenced by the tear of Selūne from Volo's Guide to All Things Magical.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lloth's Tear

It's a black tear-shaped gemstone(maybe a diamond) which came to existence, when Araushnee became Lloth. It was the only tear she ever shed, when she realized her loss of power by becoming tanar'ri.

Powers:

all spells or spell-like abilities cast within 30 feet of the tear have max. range, effect, damage etc.; caster-levels increased by 2
control of arachnid creatures in 50 yard range(priestesses of Lloth can control arachnids in 3 mile range)
the bearer can look through any arachnids eyes within the same range
the bearer may once per day summon(and command) or banish 5 least tanar'ri, or 3 lesser tanar'ri, or 1 true or greater tanar'ri(balors can choose to appear or not)
telepathy

Curse:

Any nondrow activating one of the powers has a 5% cummulative chance of being subject to a death spider spell (in the original DotU) without a save.

Drow whithout Lloth's favor or venerating other gods, who are activating a power of the tear, are either struck blind (75% chance) or turned into driders(25% chance)

suggested means of destruction:

The tear must be brought before the Seldarine, whith each of them cursing it. Then it must be tossed into Helani's pool, destroying both.
It must be swallowed by Entropy.
The tear nust be brought before the Dark Eight Baatezu Lords, who have to shatter it with their weapons, thus gaining some of Lloth's power

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I said before, I'm not finished yet. Though it's a gem, you could change it into an amulet, if you like.

I hope it helps with your regalia collection.

Greater Belt of Priestly Might (MoF) and Queen's Scourge (Underdark), well sort of.

BTW, all what I mentioned above should only be hints. Regalia should be a touch more special than that.

some crown that grants at least domination multiple times per day.

such as crown of the spider queen.

a tiara type crown of meteoric black metal with eoght points.each point tipped with a 1000gp diamond

allows the wearer to use the following abilities
constant animal firendship (limited to arachnids only) while worn.
allows the wearer to speak with arachnids, as the spell speak with animals but limited to arachnids only.

allows the wearer to cast
charm person 3times per day.
domination 3times perday,
charm monster 3times perday.

also gives a +5 enhacement bonus to charisma while worn.
and damage reduction 10/piercing.
poison reversal, the wearer is immune to the effects of all animal poisons and if bitten by an arachnid, the normal poison effects are actually added to the wearers ability scores instead of subtracted this effect lasts for 1day.
for example, if the wearer is bitten by a spider whose poison normally does 1d6 con damage, the wearer would have 1d6 added to their constitution score which would wear off after 1 day.

if worn or touched by anyone other than a female drow it immediately constricts to half of it's original size, treat as a +20 grapple attack, dammage 1d10 per round and heats up as the heat metal spell.

hows that for a quick off the top of me head lolth based artifact.

add to this the spider queens amulet. and spider queens ring.

spider queens amulet
a snug fitting choker chain made from the same black meteoric metal as the crown with a black jade spider in the center of the pendant which hangs at the throat.

this amulet confers a climb movement rate of 20 feet the wearer gains a +10 bonus to climbing skill checks and can always choose to take 10 when climbing.
it adds 20 feet to the range of the wearers darkvision and gives a +5 bonus to spot checks in darkness.

if the wearer is a priestess of lolth it gives access to all of lolths domains, so the wearer can prepare spells per day from all of the domains as if they had the domain themself it also conveys the domain abilities of these domains.

if worn by anyone who is not a female drow, it immediately constricts to half of it's original size, treat as a +20 grapple attack, dammage 1d10 per round and heats up as the heat metal spell.

ring of the spider queen
made from the same black meteoric metal as the other 2 items in the set. this thin band has a figure of a spider wrought from the top with 8 small ruby eyes.

this ring gives energy resistance 15 against all types of energy, it conveys all round vision which makes it impossible to be flanked by anyone other than a rogue of 4 levels higher than the wearer.

5 times per day it gives the wearer a touch attack with the same dammage and and poison effects as a fiendish huge monstrous spider.

If all 3 items are worn together,
they give the additional abilties as follows.
automatic stoneskin which if depleted will automatically refresh 2 rounds afterwards and can refresh 3 times per day.
free action the wearer cannot be affected by any form of webs including the web spell and can move within webs as if they were a spider.

and i would send em on a wild goose chase that lasted till level 40 before they got their hands on all 3 of em. by which time they wouldn't be that much use but i'm evil like that me.
hope it gives you a bit of inspiration at least, good luck with your design and let us know what you come up with.

An ioun-stone of sorts for you, that I'd developed in 2e (forgot all about it til rereading this). I updated it to 3.5 and tweaked it to more match the spells available in 3e, then priced it out. I included the thought process on the pricing in case I made an error that needs to be fixed.

Lolth`s Caress: This item functions as an ioun stone. As long as the item has at least 1 charge remaining, the wearer is surrounded by a faint light (visible both with regular sight and with darkvision) that functions similarly to a blur spell, providing a 10% miss chance. If the item currently contains 6 or more charges, the bearer is granted 20% concealment by this shifting pattern of light. The light also grants additional range to the bearer's darkvision distance in feet equal to the miss chance they currently enjoy. This benefit does not grant darkvision, it only improves the user's existing darkvision range.

Each day Lolth`s caress has eight charges. The first time each day that the bearer is subjected to an attack form that Lolth`s caress protects against, the attack is negated. Each attack form may only be negated once per day. The bearer has no choice about this defense, it is automatic. In the event the wearer is subjected to an attack and has other protections active, those defenses trigger also, overlapping but not stacking with, Lolth's caress.

The eight attack forms Lolth's caress protects against are:
Acid
Cold
Electric
Fire
Sonic
Negative Energy (to include negative levels and inflict spells)
Poison
Paralysis (to include similar effects from spells such as Command, Greater Command, etc.)

Moderate Evocation; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, blur, death ward, neutralize poison, remove paralysis, Tirumael`s energy spheres; Price 7,520g.

Cost to create breakdown - Highest item is a 4th level spell with CL 7. As a use-activated item that equals 1,400g. At 1 charge/day, that's 280g, doubled for no space on character = 560g. Six of the other spells have the same cost, first being at 75% equals 420g, the other 5 at 50%, or 5x280 equals 1,400g. Then we have blur and remove paralysis, which is SL2 and CL7, or 700, divided by 5, then in half, or 70g each. After that we'll add in an ad-hoc for the variant duration of the blur effect equal to 5000g. In summary -- 560+420+1400+140+5000 = 7,520g

I like this. Lolth's Tear sounds cool as well, but I'm having an extremely hard time accepting that Lolth ever cried. Maybe it should be a crystalized form of Lolth's blood or something.

Here's another item I came up with.

Spiderskin Amulet: As the spell by the same name, this petrified black widow spider on a delicate mithril chain provides a +5 save against poison, +5 racial bonus to hide and +5 natural armor bonus as the wearer's skin hardens like the carapace of a spider.

Another thing I'm noticing about many of these items is that they're overlapping, meaning many of them provide the same powers.

For instance, the ring of Lolth, the cloak of arachnea and the robe of ebonsilk all provide a constant spider climb.

I guess that can't be helped when dealing with spider-themed items though.

Also keep in mind that your player will appreciate the only "Boots of Lolth" that have spiderclimb and pass without trace in caves (just throwing out something) in the entire world versus "another pair of boots of spiderclimb."

These items are only suggestions, tinker with them. If you need help with pricing, use the Combat section of the FR forums and myself (and others) will be glad to help.

How about a version of a Hellcat Gauntlet (MIC), that includes the Via Negativa feat as well? :evillaugh

Why not. Maybe call it bebelith gauntlet and add a sunder effect to it.
