All kinds of races live down in the Underdark including Duergar, Illithid, Drow and Svirfneblin - and all of them wear clothing.

Where do they get the material?

The Deep Rothe are a food source from what I know, but not a source of material extraction.

Hook Horrors, Basilisks, Dire Corbies, whatever those Mushroom Men are called - none of these creatures have any use for clothing.

I don't know about most of the other races, but the drow are heavy in their magic use. Fabrication comes to mind. There's also trade with the surface dwellers.

Do they trade with the surface? With their attitude towards surfacers and with the teachings of Lolth, I would be surprised if any trade happened at all.

Spider silk? Drow can make clothing out of Spider Silk. :)

According to the underdark entry in the FRCS on page 210, their imports/exports (in that order) include Armor, food, slaves, timber, weapons/Armor, Exotic goods, magic, weapons. I'm fairly sure that clothing is included in this, although Drow clothing is unique and exotic looking. I'm sure they just fabricate it at home. I'm sure they just use alternate materials if it isn't provided by magic (considering that there isn't enough mages to supply the entire population.) Where these materials come from most likely are provided by the various underdark creatures, not neccesarily monsters, like the umberhulk, but possibly spiders (from their webbing, like silk from worms.), silk, etc, etc.

Although most underdark races have contempt for surface dwellers, they will trade with a select few of them, I presume, because trade is generally advantangeous to both parties.

If they get materials from anywhere else, its possibly from either another plane (which I think drow would have ready access to) or from pilliaging.

Food wise, I would imagine that Rothe meat & pack lizard meat make up the balance of Drow meat intake.

I also seem to recall that Rothe provide milk, as well as a form of cheese, and that mushrooms (and probably some form of lichen) are used as a staple, as well as fermented for ales.

Rothe & pack lizards probably also provide leather for clothing, and as previously mentioned, spider silk is most likely used for softer garments.

Phase spider silk is used in the creation of the piwafwi.

I'm sure that the hides of other exotic beasts found in Underdark are used for clothing as well.

The "Mushroom Men" are collectively known as Myconids, IIRC.

Trading could also work in a sort of chain, from the most tolerant races to the least ones. Example: humans produce cotton clothing, they sell it to the dwarves, who sell it to the svirfneblin, who sell it to the duergar, who sell it to the drow.

You can also switch any of the "who sell it to the" expressions in the above with "who is slaughtered and robbed by the" :D
