I finally just got my hands on this supermodule!!!

Anyway, I'd like your suggestions on where to place Hommlet, or what village is close to being like it, in the Realms.

So far, I'm thinking of somewhere in the Silver Marches or Dalelands, and just adding it in as Hommlet, rather than replacing a place.

Also, I'm not sure what to do about the destructive god Tharizdun and finding a Realms equivalent. My first thought was Talos, but after reading a bit more just now, maybe he's not the best fit. The best fit might be something between Talos and Shar, just Shar, or both. Any ideas here?

Thank you!

Perhaps the Vast would be a better place for it. It is not as heavily developed as the Dalelands or the Silver Marches.

Alternatively you could place it in Cormyr. There is a big swamp (The Vast Swamp I think it is called) in the South and a couple of small villages close by so you could use that if you wish to keep your players from wondering.

As for Tharizdun he has made appearances in the older Realms (2e) altough many would argue that he was not the same god as the one in GH. They were close enough so you could use it. His temples were located in the Underdark but there is no reason why his followers could not have had a surface strongold.

Call it the Elder Elemental Evil or something like that and you will not be that far off. An ancient god imprisoned by the others trying to reach beyong his confinement.

I think you're thinking of Moander, Tharizdun never was a realms entity.

Thanks! The Vast is now on my short list of good settings for RttToEE in the Realms. I especially like it having a lot of swamp area there - good flavor :)

Any more specific places where I can read about Moander in the Realms? Though the Elder Elemental Evil works too as some ancient Realms deity - something wholly unknown to the players/characters might even be the best choice.

Whats wrong with just using Tharizdun? He's been imprisoned for a thousand years and his cult has been fairly inactive until the time of the Temple of Elemental Evil. It would be easy for the gods name to fall out of general knowledge.

Don't forget that Toril is littered with intruder gods, gods just passing through, and minor and major gods of all sorts. Tharizdun is just one more legend in the dustheap of history...at least until he rises again.

Besides hes just a very cool god who doesn't have a real close FR relative. He deserves to be showboated.

I was doing something similar a year or two ago, however I chose the Greyhawk campaign setting because I was very unfamiliar with the forgottern realms.

Looking back, if I were to do the campaign again in FR I would choose to place it in the Silver Marches. I would locate the Temple of all Consumption in the Nether Mountains and place Hommlet 40 miles south-east of Everlund, on the fringes of the High Forest. Rastor would be located on the foot-hills of the Nether Mountains and the Temple of Elemental Evil and Moathouse within the High Forest.

I chose the Silver Marches mostly because I would like to see my players try to fend for themselves in a harsher environment then the Dalelands. However you could place the temple anywhere their is a range of mountains, a forest and a city in close proximity, which when you think about it is almost anywhere. The Vast sounds good too.

Keep us posted on your campaign.

you could always make "Tharizdun" one of the 7 lost gods of the Forgotten realms

No, it wasn't Moander I was thinking of. There is this elemental god of oozes and slimes worshipped by some drow and there was this abyssal force of insanity presented in a high level adventure (the Temple of Madness or something similar) so a combination of the two could make up for a Tharizdun clone.

But as the others said FR is littered with the remains of ancient religions and it has its share of lost gods so it would be easy to integrate that module somewhere in Faerun.

Well, the way I've done it (And have explained a dozen times in the past. This time, I should just take this on a .txt file... :embarrass) was to replace Tharizdun with Moander and set the whole thing in the Dalelands and southern Moonsea. I used Dagger Falls as Hommlet, Voonlar as Rastor, and placed the Temple itself in the ruins of Yűlash. Remember how Moander's last temple was located there, where the elves of Myth Drannor imprisoned him? The ruins of Nulb were an outlying region of the ruins. The Moathouse I just plonked down in the forests of Daggerdale.

Ah you mean Ghaunadaur, that which lurks...
