| Vivaldi10-31-05, 06:01 AM | Hi all. The party I am running has just increased in size by three. and since this is my first foray into DM'ing, I felt that it might be wise to change my intended tack. So, now I am planning on using the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil book - any pointers from anyone who has played in it or run it?? I have an Evil alligned party, so it should be fun. First session was interesting to say the least!! I cant see any problem slotting my group into the setting, or its placement a few days or weeks from their base in Waterdeep. It is more the mechanics of the whole campaign. cheers for the help.. |

It has dozens of helpful add-ons and gives pleanty of additional content that can really help fill this whole thing out. I'm currently running my group through this module, but I put a much different twist on it then anyone else I heard of, I'm running it in Thay. The group has to deal with the cult and with the Red Wizards or else they die. Or other horrible things happen. It is very original and the twists and turns the group has taken have changed things enourmously. I've used Monte's site for some ideas, but ZansForCans gets the majority of my thanks, he made running this module so much easier. |

If your group won't mind spending 9 months to over a year of playing then it is fine for them. Plus it can be a meatgrinder for some groups. Lots of possible TKPs. Some of the things inside, like the Lightning Towers and Half Dragon/T Rex are kinda dumb IMO. It was the 1st real WOTC adventure for 3E so it used a LOT of templates and many monsters that might not have been needed. ;) Hope all this may help ya. Plus the whole point of the adventure (I think) is to stop a great and terrible evil from blah blah blah. Why would an evil group give a damn about this? It is not about raiding a dungeon to get riches or lost lore and arcana. It is about saving the world. |
