Ruins of adventure 9238 [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-06-05, 05:35 AM This module is a compilation after the old and glorious PC game(1988 i think) "POOL OF RADIANCE"...

The heroes eventually get to kill the posessed Red Dragon in Phlan(Moonsea) and find the location of the Pool of Radiance.

I 've downloaded from SV games the module "Ruins of adventure 9238" and read it but no trace of the Pool of Radiance was to be found.In the pc game i think the heroes find the spot of the pool but in the adventure module this doesn't seem to happen...

Can someone explain? :confused: :confused:

I'm not sure how to explain.... The module and the novels based on the module and the game are the more official canon material. :)

If I recall right, the adventurers in the novels did find the pool though.

The pool was in the room where the "posessed Dragon" dragon was.
After the dragon is defeated, the pool dried up, it apears that the entity posessing the dragon was keeping the pool manifested at that location.
Well, that and Bane helped.
So, if the module does not take you to the dragon, you will never see the pool.
Also, it was not a red, it was a metalic dragon, bronze I think.

Off-hand I don't recall seeing the pool, but that was a very very long time ago, and none of my puters will run that game.

Pool of Radiance Attack on Myth Drannor has 3E stats on a Pool of Radiance, and those are very easily changeable to 1E/2E.

The appearance of the pool would have been missed if one just advanced the text at the appearance.

I almost felt silly using a spoiler block for a game that's over 15 years old, but hey. :)

You Alac tell me you've played the pc game and the pool is discovered after the slaying of the dragon.Then perhaps i should throw in a pool of radiance in that room too as to emulate the videogame.

PS.-In which year did you play "Pool of Radiance?"?How was the game?Where can i find it nowadays?

The last time I saw it in a store was maybe 2 years ago, but I haven't been looking for it, and I spend less time at the 'puter store then I once did.
It is now bundled with a bunch of other games of the same era.
Things like Eye of the Beholder series, Menzobenzaren, about 12 other games.
I think the title of the set was "Forgotten Realms classic games: Gold Edition" or something similar.

These are old games written for old computers, Long before Pentium days, many before windows, many were expected to use MS-DOS.
These games to not always work on new computers.
You can get things saying you don't have enough RAM, even if you have 100 times more RAM then the normal computer from that time, this has to do with Windows memory management program, this can be overcome, but I' don't remember how.

If you do get it to work, there are many times when the text is displayed, it scrolls faster then any human is capable to read, this has to do with processor speed.
Then there are a few other "bugs".

The last time I played this was about 5 years ago, I was able to get this one to work.
Yea, the graphics were dated, but I still enjoyed it for the 10th time or something.
But that is me, can't guarantee everyone will like it.

A few other games that came with the set that I was able to get to run were really bad, The Menzo game was horrible.

Tyranthraxus was resting within the pool as you come in, you fight his elite guard, then you fight him.
The pool dries up immediately after, as Bane comes to drag Tyranthraxus's spirit away.
In you played the newer game “Pool of radiance: ruins of Myth Drannor” this is also starting place of that game.
