Running Cormyr at 5th Level [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-06-07, 08:02 AM I'm about to take my 5th level party through it. Has anyone used it with a 5th level party. Does it matter that they're 5th instead of 4th; will it seem a little too easy? It looks like most of the encounters at the beginning are EL6. What do you all think?

11-06-07, 12:05 PM Some of it will depend on how many players you have, but I'd resist the urge to make the encounters more difficult or anything like that. The first little bit will definitely be easier - having the ability to throw a fireball out there changes a lot. That being said, though, the way the experience system is designed, it should balance itself out and by the time you're done the first module (assuming you resisted the urge to tinker with encounters), they will likely be getting close to where they would have been had you started them at level 4.

That being said, if you enjoy tinkering with encounters, you could just do it throughout the whole game. The way that my party has gone through things, there have been some really difficult spots that could have been ratcheted down a notch, but also some pitifully easy ones that could have been brought up one.

11-06-07, 02:11 PM Probably depends on your alls playing style, if the characters have high ability scores it might be too easy, if they are 25 point buy, then probably not. I would run it as is and then see, if it is too easy throw in a couple of extra bad guys here and there.

That's right. If they're a licensed cormyrean adventuring group, that charter costs 25,000 GP.

11-06-07, 05:57 PM This is great to hear. I'd hoped I wouldn't have to mess with it because I really don't have a lot of time to devote to prepping. That's why I'm running it in the first place. My gut feeling was that it'd be fine but I wanted to confirm it. There's only 4 of them and they are new players so that'll help too.
