Sailing Ship [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-24-03, 11:05 PM My players just acquired a sailing ship and are off on an adventure in Maztica. Anyone have a link or a pic of a diagram of a good sailing ship. There are going to be some action scenes on the ship and i want a good idea of what one would have and the size and stuff. Thanks in advance.

2e's Of Ships and Sea has some basic pic's of ships. You can also look for these 3rd products for 3e, which also have a lot of good info about ships.

MGP3001, Seas of Blood – Fantasy on the High Seas
MGP3002, Seas of Blood – Ships of the Goblinoids
MGP3003, Seas of Blood - Ships of the Elves
MGP3004, Seas of Blood – Ships of War

All are by Mongoose Publishing, except Of Ships and Sea, which was produced by TSR and should be available as a ESD.

Go to www.mongoosepublishing.com and look at their DOWNLOADS section. I think you will see some listed for the above products and they will have ship diagrams.

Did you buy the actual book? If so, how is it? I've been wondering where I could find some decent ship rules (I haven't looked the 3.5 DMG for that yet: does it have ship rules?)

10-24-03, 06:16 AM I have not purchased it. I've been trying to decide between two books. The first one is the Seas of Blood on the Mongoose page, and all the sub books. They deal with a lot of fantasy ships, such as ships elves would make and whatnot. They use the idea that every supplement prior is based on our real life history, and things would be different in a fantasy world. I have not had a chance to look at this at all.

The other book is the Seafarer's Handbook (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/llsh.html) by Fantasy Flight Games. This one has gotten better reviews by people online, but seems heavily focused on the human side of sailing. I've read through some of this one, but the first few chapters have a few extra races, feats, and skills which I tend to find annoying. Everything has to have so much "crunch" to it, but it just becomes too much after a while. I haven't gotten a chance to read any of the real core material.

There are reviews of both of these materials online at various websites (whose names escapes me now).

Oh, I forgot to mention that I have been very pleased with Mongoose's magical series. Well, with that one, you do need to watch which of those you buy. Some can be overpowering.
