Sammaster was an young wizard and keen intelligent which draw Mystra's attention, she choosed him. She gave him to el but they couldn't get along with eachother. He attacked alustriel after, he went mad and found cult of the dragon

Sammaster was a super intelligent human whos desire to study magic and develop new spells caught the eye of Mystra. She made him one of her chosen. Then sent him to Elminster so he could study there. Unfortunately El and Sammaster didn't get along because Sammaster was under the impression that Mystra loved him, and only him. El with his ego and all, and the fact that he had shagged Mystra opposed this. So they fell out.
Sammaster continued to study magic, and soon made his godgiven silverfire even more potent (he became a spellfire user).
He wandered faerun for a short time and even became the lover of fair Lady Allustriel. He wandered the world some more and soon met the person who would become his doom. A cleric of Bane. The Banite saw Sammaster as the perfect leader. One he could bring to serve the Black hand as a tyrant. This would require false promises to Sammaster and a lot of manipulation. Sammaster was at this time unaware that his friend was a Banite Cleric. Sammaster with his increasing magical talent, grew more and more insane and his friend had little trouble swaying Sammaster's mind down an evil path. This culminated with Sammaster attacking Lady Allustriel and would have killed her had Laeral and Khelben of Waterdeep not intervened. The result was the corpse of Sammaster laying on the road badly scorched and burned. The Banite cleric arrived and revived Sammaster who had now lost his chosen powers, yet still retained his amazing health. Sammaster found Lichdom a little later. Sammaster then continued to study and soon came upon some books where he translated some passages inside to something like this: And nothing shall be left but dead dragons who shall rule the world entire.
Sammaster became obsessed with this, thus he founded Cult of the Dragon. The Cults influence quickly spread and many dragons were made into Dracoliches. One day Sammaster heard of a particularly huge dragon that dwelt inside the forest of Cormanthyr who wanted to find Lichdom. He marched himself forth with many wearers of the Purple and a few Dracoliches only to find a clever ambush laid out by the Harpers. A huge battle followed and Sammaster was winning it. Nothing could withstand the power of the Dracoliches and his magical prowess. Panic spread throughout the Harper ranks as more and more Harpers fell before the might of the Cult. Then some Harper clerics of the Morninglord Lathander did the only thing they could do. They prayed for their god to save them. And that he did. Lathander arrived in a brilliant light that blinded all and then proceeded to destroy the biggest of the Dracoliches, Sammaster's own steed, with one swing of his mighty weapon, the Dawnspeaker. The other Dracoliches were destroyed and in the end only Sammaster and Lathander were fighting. Sammaster actually managed to spill some of Lathander's blood with a spell of his but right after that he got destroyed himself by a hit from the Dawnspeaker.

That's his history as far as I know. Please forgive me if there is some errors in it as I do not have my book with me right now. For some reason I can't remember the name of that damn Banite Cleric. Hope this helps :)
