Setting "Sunless Citadel" in FR: What Deity for Belak? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-19-06, 01:51 PM I'm running "Sunless Citadel" in the Realms and I can't figure out what deity would be Belak's patron, as none of the evil nature deities seem to fit.

What deity would likely be the patron of a mad druid who breeds twig blights from an evil tree?

08-19-06, 03:13 PM Talona, probably. He's corrupting nature. Look at what her minions do in the Great Dale. It's pretty much the same.

08-20-06, 07:40 AM I would also go with Moander. Of course, by the RAW, you would need to swap out a feat for Servant of the Fallen... or simply have Lolth provide the spells.

I am currently running The Sunless Citadel in a FR campaign, and chose Talona as Belak's deity.

Some of the twigblights towards the very end I've advanced in CR, and in the final battle I've added the Blightspawned template (Unapproachable East) to a couple of the twigblights surrounding Belak.

My inspiration for adding this template in was from a restrained dire rat in a previous room that Belak was experimenting crossing twigblight genetics with. So far, my PC's hated getting diseased from the dire rats. However twigblights were causing them no problem to the point that numbers weren't even an issue in battle. So I thought the disease aspect of the direrats being crossed into the twigblights made perfect sense to add the template into Belak's other experiments of nature.

The Blightspawned's abilities to steal Constitution & Charisma and then raise it's victims at Blightspawned, plus the Plant/Undead traits makes perfect sense as saperlings from the Gultias Tree, the green stake that slayed a greater vampire on the very spot it grows.

The description of the Blightspawned also says they were created by the Rotting Man. Since I made Belak a druid follower of Talona, I thought this connection made sense. So overall, adding the Blightspawned template to my twigblights in the Sunless Citadel was a no brainer. Feel free to use this idea in your own campaign.
