| ShadeMaster02-24-06, 04:24 PM | I need help making a backround for a nuetral shade wizard/shadow caster (new prestige class in tome of magic learns to cast spells by drawing energy from the plane of shadow).I also need to know If I should make him a sorcerer instead. I really dont know what type of shade but I am making it so he was an elf and then became a shade. |
| Ramar Aulinvox02-24-06, 05:32 PM | Is he a Shadovar or something else? A Maulgrym? An Eshowe? A shadow fey? The race of the character might help in determining an appropriate background. |
| ShadeMaster02-24-06, 06:37 PM | Anyone may answer I am not having a conversation with only the first person to reply. :D |
| GothicDan02-24-06, 06:59 PM | What do you need help on specifically? |
| Telagaunt02-24-06, 09:16 PM | Hmm. You mentioned neutrally aligned, but what would his feelings be towards like Shade (the city)? Example, would he want to work for the Shadovar? Also, where do you want him to live, that could have an effect on Wizard or Sorcerer too. Do you want him to have ties to Imaskar somehow? I take it you read The Shadow Stone maybe? It's hard to create other people's characters :P |
| Lord Karsus02-25-06, 01:17 AM | It's hard to create other people's characters :P -Making up the character and his/her background is about 90% of the fun. You'd think that people would do that themselves... |
| ShadeMaster02-25-06, 07:41 AM | I have made a lot of new changes. I have decided o do it myself. :D |
| Lord Karsus02-25-06, 11:46 PM | I have made a lot of new changes. I have decided o do it myself. :D -Good, I am happy that you decided to change your mind. Like I said before, most of the fun comes from creating your character's background, personality, and the such. |
| Zsych02-26-06, 04:00 PM | Dang, i'd prefer to have other people use characters i make, since i can't play these days. A neutral elven shade though.... [shakes his head displeased with the idea... :)] This character is only being made because it seems cool to add the shade powers(Nothing wrong with that, but i dislike the idea of the Shade class being dirtied by elves :) ) The Shadowvar are Netherese. They don't really respect elves much. At best, if the character is talented, he can get something of the standing that that ridiculous Evereskan sorcerer from Return of the Archwizards had. i.e. being considered no more than a tool. A high-level Shade sorcerer shouldn't really want approval from anyone. If he's gone high up in the shade levels, he obviously didn't care what anyone thought about it, so wanting to join those like him should not be a great desire. |
| Telagaunt02-26-06, 05:44 PM | Shadovar are Netherese, and while the shade template is a product of Shar and the Shadow Weave, it is not limited to the Shadovar, or other Netherese. Infact, you dont even have to be a spellcaster of the Shadow Weave to be a shade (well actually you dont need to cast spells at all). |
| Zsych02-27-06, 01:19 AM | but he wants a shade sorcerer. Normally a somewhat more cool form of your general issuse evil wizard. Though he's keeping his guy neutral, so that kills the darkness somewhat. Hmm... wonder if Shar offers clerical powers born of the shadow weave. I've never checked, but there should be some unusual powers for her clergy. |

| Telagaunt02-28-06, 12:35 PM | Hmm... wonder if Shar offers clerical powers born of the shadow weave. I've never checked, but there should be some unusual powers for her clergy. She does. Not her entire clergy I don't think, but there are portions of which draw from the Shadow Weave. Infact, there's a sect of drow priestesses of Shar in the late city of Ched Nasad. |

Infact, there's a sect of drow priestesses of Shar in the late city of Ched Nasad. -No, Divine Magic granted by Shar would have nothing to do with the Shadow Weave. The Shadow Weave is for Arcane Magic, not Divine Magic. And, Zesstra Alraehend was a Drow Priestess of Shar who was in charge of that small group of Sharites. |
| Zsych03-01-06, 02:15 AM | Hmm... there's always been that problem of whether or not the diety has any serious hand in the spells a cleric can use. If they just channel divine energy, as opposed to arcane weave energy, but mold it themselves for their spells, then the god really doesn't have much to do with the spells. Shar herself possesses the secrets of the shadow-weave. Maybe she can offer some sort of shadow-divine energy for the spell casting :) Which might allow specific shadow-weave based divine spells(with Shar acting as a converter between the shadow-weave and the shadow-divine magic :)). Might actually be an interesting idea somewhere. |

I wasn't saying that Shar's clergy automatically draws on the Shadow Weave, of course it doesn't. I just mean I'm sure there are those in her clergy who have Shadow Weave Magic feat. |

I always saw Divine magic as "Straight from the Gods to you, cast by their divine will" kinda thing. With this now straightened out, I am sure that there's a good number of Sharran clergy who have access to the Shadow Weave. |
| Telagaunt03-02-06, 12:48 PM | Well the divinity does come from the Gods but the Weave is what makes the mortals able to use it, or rather, manipulate it. |
